About
At an altitude of 1,322 m, the Harder Kulm offers the best view of Interlaken, Eiger Mönch and Jungfrau as well as the Thun and Lake Brienz. The palatial restaurant and the Two Lakes Bridge viewing platform are an enticing place to spend time. The cable car, not far from the Interlaken Ost train station on the Harder, has been operational for more than 100 years. The Talstation building has remained without major alterations to the original design as it was in the early years after the turn of the century, and is one of Interlaken's listed buildings. For connoisseurs and those in search of a view, the Harder railway takes just ten minutes to reach the Interlaken Hausberg. The 1,449-metre mountain journey largely goes through the forest, surmounting 731 metres in altitude at an incline of 64%.

Visited Harder Kulm today when the weather cleared and it was amazing. Access to the summit is through the vertical railway which takes you from Interlaken to 1300m within 8 minutes and its free with regional pass and swiss travel pass. It's a high demand attraction in good weather so expect queues and waits for the railway as it runs every 30mins.

Once you're on top, the views are unbeatable with the full Jungfrau region in sight along with the areas up to Thun on the right and the beautiful lakes on the left. There's a platform for those instagram worthy snaps and there's also a restaurant which runs late into nights in spring/summer. Highly recommended!

We've just come back from a long weekend in the Interlaken region and on our only full day we chose to visit Harder Kulm, as all pictures I had seen were stunning and it seemed a nice experience.
We are glad we did, and that we were blessed with an amazing sunny day.
We chose to only buy the tickets to reach the summit, paying 15 chf thanks to the region discount we got.
After arriving at Harder Kulm we decided to take the hike to the very top of the mountain, which took us approx 45 mins... But we were rewarded with lovely views.
After going back to the platform and taking the usual pics we climbed down the mountain for about 1.5 hrs before reaching interlaken ost and the train station.
It's tough even downhill, I still have very stiff calves and I suggest you to wear hiking shoes as twisting your ankles is very easy.
Overall a majestic experience that I'll gladly repeat in the near future.

The views were beautiful from the top, but the only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 was the crown control. The waiting room the ride the funicular was extremely crowded and somewhat chaotic with little ventilation. The ride up and back was extremely packed with no ventilation.

This had to get 5 stars based on the views of this magical place. The wait for the ride up was typical and not too crowded. You do go through a tunnel so if you are the type of person who does not like the idea of tunnels, just be aware of the closed-in feeling you might experience. I'm not a fan, but the views made it worth it a hundred times over. Once up top, if you plan on doing a lot of walking around (really hiking), make sure to wear proper shoes. They describe the "walk" as an "easy, circular loop" and that is not true in my opinion. I am in decent shape and found some of the climb to be a bit challenging. There really isn't a reason to do any of the climbs because it is so forested, your best views are right when you get off. It is important to know that if you want a table closer to the edge by the best views, they do not take reservations and you can just wait for someone to leave. There is a self-service option to order drinks and food which is open seating. They DO NOT allow you to drink your own water so you have to order water. I was reprimanded for placing my water bottle on the table. We got a large bottle for 9 francs. Also, as mentioned in many reviews, if you order fondue, the price is PER PERSON and there is no such thing as "sharing" anything so don't be surprised by your bill. We got the fondue with onions and bacon and it was good. Surprisingly, dipping the boiled potatoes in it was better than I anticipated. We spent about 5 hours up top so it was worth the trip up!

We were coming to the region to stay in Grindelwald for five days of adventure in the region. Id been before but my husband and adult sons (23 and 21) had not. As we arrived in the area, our first destination was Harder Kuln. I knew that a visit to Harder Kuln would be the perfect way for the guys to visualize the area we were about to explore, to see Interlaken from above situated between two spectacularly beautiful lakes, and surrounded by the breathtaking majesty of the Alpine peaks. The Funicular ride was great fun, heightening the boys’ excitement, and the walk from the top of the ride to the restaurant and overlook heightened their excitement as they turned the corner to see dozens of paragliders floating and soaring around like human sized mosquitos swarming the cliff side! They were amazed and thrilled. What a dramatic introduction to the region! The weather was hazy and overcast, but it didn’t hurt their experience at all. One criticism: we initially used gps to get there as nothing online clarified that one couldn’t drive to the summit. We got nearly there but had to turn around as we approached the summit when a sign said no cars allowed. The actual funicular location at the bottom does not seem to have an address that shows up online which can be plugged in to gps. We had to drive around and ask many many people before we figured out how to find the funicular! Glad we finally did as it was wonderful!

If you are planning on visiting Interlaken for even a few days, then I would say this is a must.

We made some mistakes when we originally tried to reach Harder Kulm on the day we arrived and I hope this post helps others. I would strongly recommend you take the cable train from Hardebahn station which takes you directly to the top of Harder Kulm. We managed to also catch the thunderstorm and the overall view from the top is beautiful. Unfortunately, I am unable to post videos on this platform.

You can get a discount on the tickets if you have a bus pass, this was provided to us by the hostel we were staying at. There is also a restaurant at the top that may be worth exploring.

I personally would love to visit again at a different time of the day if I were to visit again.

BEWARE! I’m sure most of you are accustomed to keeping your train ticket with you after boarding as you may need it once you disembark the train to be allowed out of the train station. This was not my experience in most Swiss train stations but it is the case here. If you misplace your ticket (or your phone dies etc) after riding up in the Harderbaun you will need to pay again to be allowed to go down, otherwise you will be forced to walk down. This is assumed and therefore no heads up is given about this. I assume people walk up to Harder Kulm and can try to board the Harderbaun to go down, which I was unaware of before my phone died and my e-ticket was thus unavailable. I was thus essentially trapped on the mountain. Probably a rare occurrence. The Harderbaun operator was unnecessarily condescending and unhelpful about the situation as you can imagine with ticket checkers. I was able to return later with my e-ticket to get the extra ticket refunded (out of principle) so I’m thankful for that. Otherwise you should enjoy the visit in a clear day, except for being packed like sardines in the carriage. I just hope this saves some of you from unnecessary headache. Cheers

When we decided to come all the way from Indiana to get married in Switzerland we weren't sure who to contact or what to do. It almost felt like a pipe dream. It felt like we had a monumental task ahead of us. Little did we know how easy and fun it could be. Jan Euskirchen's weddings and proposals are by far the most spectacular and special way to spend your day. From the beginning to the end it was an absolute pleasure getting to know Jan for our wedding at Harder Kulm. He planned, organized and officiated our wedding from the ground up and it turned out beautifully. After everything was said and done we truly felt like Jan was part of the family. We highly recommend this funny and charismatic man for anyone out there looking to plan a special Swiss day of their own. Thank you Jan and Thank you Harder Kulm!

The best thing about this experience is arriving and leaving, all owed to the view. The service at the restaurant is terrible. I’ve been here twice and on all occasions, the restaurant staff were very rude and don’t seem to care about customer satisfaction. The food is sub par at best which is surprising considering it’s very expensive even for Switzerland. There’s honestly a terrible air of “we don’t like you tourists” which makes no sense cause it is a tourist location. Not a welcoming experience at all.

Visiting Harder Kulm is a must when you are at Interlaken. The Harderkulm is a viewpoint at 1,322 metres in the Berner Oberland region of Switzerland, overlooking the towns of Interlaken and Unterseen.

You can reach the top of Harder Kulm in a Funicular cable car ride , which passes through a small tunnel & it's enjoyable. Once you are on top ,a little walk will take you to the viewing point. When you look down the view of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun is mesmerising & the city of Interlaken nestled between these 2 lakes is amazing.

When we reached on top it was drizzling a bit , but soon it opened up and we could see absolutely amazing view. You can also view admire the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.

We had Cheese Fondue at the Harder Kulm Panorama Restaurant. It was excellent & service was good too.

After this we returned back to the cable car and returned back to Interlaken city.

Excellent Visit to Harder Kulm
