My husband and I booked a snowshoe and sledding tour for our trip to Switzerland for a Monday at the end of February. A few days before we left, we got an email apologizing that due to poor snow conditions it wouldn’t be possible to do the sledding portion of the trip and offered us the option of a full refund or a full snowshoe tour with partial refund for the sledding portion or a few other options. We decided to continue with just the snowshoe portion and I couldn’t be more happy with how the day turned out.
Our guide (whose name I can’t recall and I feel awful about that - Martin I think?) arrived to meet us and we were lucky enough to find out that we were the only people scheduled for this tour this day! We went to the shop to quickly get fitted and sign some papers and we were back in the van to drive to our spot in no time. Our guide drove up some steep and narrow roads to get us to our starting point. Once we got there, we parked, suited up and began our hike. We were incredibly fortunate to have gorgeous weather so we were able to hike in just snow pants and a long sleeve thermal shirts!
The hike itself was a fantastic workout and deceivingly more challenging than I would have expected. My husband and I are in our 30s and in decent shape so we opted to do the full loop, the suggested more difficult route, which began with an uphill hike. We took photos breaks and breaks to rest as needed and really enjoyed being out in the beauty of it all, taking in the scenery. And WOW, the view from the top was BREATHTAKING!! Then we continued on a slight downhill / flat hike the rest of the way. Because we were essentially a private group, it was really nice to be able to talk to and learn from our guide throughout the snowshoeing. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He felt more like a buddy than a tour guide.
All in all, the snow shoeing took a little over 2 hours and was a killer workout with picturesque views. I would HIGHLY recommend using Outdoor Interlaken for snowshoeing or any other excursion. Their customer service was responsive prior to the adventure when questions were asked vie email, their onsite staff spoke fantastic English and made us feel welcome and safe. 10/10 experience across the board 😁

Booked the Winter Alpine Adventure this morning and by 10 am we were driving with our guide Flurine up to Sulwald. Flurine was great throughout, explaining the equipment, the area, answering questions and acting as camera man. The snowshoeing was great, set at the right pace, enjoyable, with great views and at times a great laugh! The sledging that followed (lunch moved to the end as restaurant was shut as it is out of season) was 4-5km of seamless fun as we hurtled down the mountainside back to the transport. Finally we were taken to the oldest guesthouse in the region (built 1666) called Hirschen, a very traditional building that serves great food. As part of the package we had a three course meal including a traditional cheese fondue, very tasty! So a big thank you to the team for accommodating our last minute booking and ensuring we had a great time.

My friend is the adventurous one of the two of us, we decided that Interlaken was definitely the place to do something adventurous. We signed up for canyoning with Outdoor Interlaken online before leaving home. We wanted to try something new and exciting while we backpacked through Europe. Their location was very close and convenient to our hostel. They made sure we were comfortable, safe and knew what to expect. We were a group of 7 plus two guides. Each of the helmets had funny creative names on them which we used to refer to each other, like Mad Max, Gandalf, Precious, etc. We slid, jumped, rappelled a cliff and did a matrix style stunt. I am not in the best shape physically and I surprised myself by doing this, it made me feel more alive! It was so much fun! I definitely recommend purchasing the video of the adventure! My friend and I talk all the time about when we went canyoning in Switzerland and the video allows us to relive it. If we had more time in Interlaken we definitely would have signed up for more of their activities, they had so many different experiences to choose from. We didn't know any of the others in the group but by the end it was like we had been friends for ages. I have never done anything like this before and I cannot wait to do it again!

Didn't want to write a terrible review which they deserve, but i received a mail from this great (not) company to give them a review. Ok, i'm not the worst, let's write one!
We were on holiday in a very nice country called Swiss. Beautiful waterfalls, mountains and lovely people.
Our time was very short to visit this great country and we had to choose for the best we could do in this short time. Our first activity on the list was canyoning, so we had to search a company in Lauterbrunnen/Interlaken where we could to this. There was only one company to pick, and that is this great (not) company. So we booked a canyon trip and the next day we stood ready at the train station in Interlaken. After 15 minutes waiting for the pick up, we thought to gave them a call when they should arrive. Nobody picked up the phone, because the office was closed till 2 p.m. (weird time for assisting tour customers?). After one hour waiting at the train station we get a call from the company and they cancelled the trip because the rain? No sound of feeling guilty about it and hang up and never heard a single word from them. What a rude manner to serve your customers.
Outdoor Interlaken, thank you very much for ruing our day and our trip to Swiss! When we're returning to this beautiful country, there is one thing for sure, we don't visit your great (not) company.

Safety is our number one priority and being in this incredible location comes with the caveat of fast-changing weather. We do our best to give our guests the best experience possible, and it would be irresponsible of us to run a trip in dangerous conditions.
The Covid-19 situation has also left us in a situation where our opening times have been affected. Again, we do our best to be responsive on all channels of communication (email, social media, phone, live chat etc), but we didn't meet your expectations this time, and that doesn't feel good.
Please accept our deepest apologies, and hopefully, we can share an adventure in the future if you're willing.

I have never had a worse experience with any other activity provider in my 60 years!!
I've been in the hospitality business for my entire life, so I can say with some authority that it's shocking how Outdoor treats your customers, especially customers that were going to be spending over $20,000 USD, including a 500CHF organization fee!!
Over one week before our scheduled ascent to Jungfrau Top of Europe, the weather was forecast to be a snowstorm. I expressed that we needed flexibility so that we would not send my 32 guests (who just traveled from the US) to the top of the Jungfrau into a complete snowstorm whiteout. I told Outdoor that I would commit to and pay for their Outdoor guides in advance, so Outdoor had no risk.
The cable car operators, Jungfraubahnen Management AG and Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. both have 24 hour cancellation policies so they are happy to accommodate.
Despite all of this, 1 week before our trip, for 32 guests traveling from the US, Outdoor said I had to commit to the schedule (ie of sending 32 guests into a whiteout) or they would cancel. I couldn't do that so Outdoor canceled our guides, canceled our cable car and train bookings with Jungfrau, and canceled our cable car bookings with Schilthorn, leaving me and my guests in a horrible situation, 1 week before my 60th birthday celebration.
Outdoor keep referring to a 5-page Terms and Conditions legal document, as if anybody has ever read it!! Give me a break!! Regardless of what the fine print in the 5-page legal document says, having a 1 month or 2-week cancelation policy, in the high Alps, when the weather is changing rapidly, makes absolutely no sense at all, especially when all the operators, including Jungfraubahnen Management AG and Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. allow groups to change or cancel with 24 hours notice.
Outdoors completely unreasonable inflexibility is inexcusable!! In less than a week, I had to find and hire a new guide and book all my tickets directly.
It was a good thing I did get the needed flexibility with Grindelwald Tours because Friday was a snowstorm so we had to move things around, and submitted the Jungfrau on a beautiful sunny Sunday.

My partner and I booked on to this beginners course ski day as a recommendation from a friend who had been before.
It was amazing! Anna, our ski instructor was so lovely and helpful, she let everyone go at their own pace without rushing or hindering individuals. You learn the basics of skiing as well as doing fun activities throughout the day, lovely restaurant onsite and the whole logistics of the day was so easy - from pick up to drop off everything was perfect, couldn't fault and we'd do it again in a heart beat! Such a fun day.

Outdoor is not a company you should complete a via ferrata with, noting we did the guided Murren-Gimmelwald via ferrata with Outdoor. There were several problems, which are noted below.
First of all the entire tour was rushed. We arrived, but had forgot gloves (traveling internationally and we forgot to pack in our luggage), we were rushed to start and could not enter the store to rent or buy gloves for the experience, we ended up starting over 15 minutes early.
During the first ~ quarter of the experience people were split up and the order of participants changed. There was absolutely no reason for splitting up participants communicated. When you pay 169 francs per person to do an activity with your girlfriend it would be nice to actually do the activity with them instead of being separated.
While descending one series of rebar steps the guide starting to pull on my leg. The guide did not say anything to me, he just started pulling on my leg. As a normal person would do, I asked him to let go of my leg, but he did not understand me (poor english), so I repeated by saying "Stop Touching Me". He Just continued pulling on my leg harder and said he'll touch anyone. It was a steep slippery section so I was being careful and slow in my movements and foot placement. It is highly unprofessional and dangerous for anyone, let alone a guide, to start pulling on your leg while descending a via ferrata. There are cases where it is plausible that for safety purposes a guide would help a participant, but the guide would talk or communicate to the participant in advance. In this scenario I was not in danger, I was just being careful... I think the guide did this to rush the tour along.
The waiver process was also rushed, and Outdoor engages in unethical business practices. The liability waiver is on a different sheet from the actual signature sheet. We were rushed to sign the signature page but were never shown the actual liability waiver. After some googling I understand there have been some serious injuries on other tours / experiences by this company which makes it even worse that participants are forced to rush through the waiver and in many cases are not given a chance to even see the liability waiver.
Overall the quality of the Via Ferrata tour in Murren with Outdoor Company is extremely bad. The views and location are 5/5. The Via Ferrata course itself is 5/5. However the guide was un professional and we were rushed during every step of the experience. Considering the tour costs 169 francs per person the company and guide should put more focus on professionalism and also letting participants enjoy the experience, instead of just rushing everything so the guide gets a longer lunch break.

The early start time is necessary for safety reasons to avoid overcrowding and potential delays on the via ferrata. We also monitor weather forecasts closely, especially for afternoon thunderstorms, which sometimes require us to start earlier to ensure everyone's safety.
While purchasing gloves is optional, we understand the inconvenience of not having enough time to obtain them before the tour. We will review our procedures to ensure guests have sufficient time to prepare for their experience.
We always provide the waiver form to each guest well before the tour begins to allow time for review and signing. We apologize if there was any confusion or rush during this process and will improve our practices for better clarity and adherence to procedures.
Regarding the incident with the guide offering assistance on the rebar steps, our guides prioritize guest safety and may offer help based on their assessment of the situation. Loved our family rafting with Flurine! He made us feel safe from the get go, very welcoming, charming and put us at ease straight away. Booking was straight forward and place easy to get to. We smiled and laughed throughout and the girls said it was their favourite day. Thank you! That dip in lake Brienz at the end topped off the experience perfectly ( and the beer at the end of course). My only regret was that we didnt get a family photo, although I dont remember any been taken, this was more on hindsight. Even without a souvenir photo, we have the memories and the experience was definately worth it.

We had a great time on the river - beautiful landscape! Our guide was excellent - funny, professional and skilled. The other guides as well as the service/management team were also wonderful - responsive, friendly and accommodating to our needs. We all had a good time!

Jetboat Splash rides for my guests - Hannah and the drivers made to me and my 160 guests an unforgettable present by doing an afternoon full of splash rides starting at my birthday party at Strandbad "The beach". We had so much fun, it's not possible to describe here. Thank you very much for this my friends!

Hi Rachel, each trip is different, it's hard to make a generalization. We are situated in the mountains with deep valleys, each has different lighting conditions as the sun moves across the sky. Typically the midday light can be quite harsh but it depends on what you're looking for. The evening light can be softer but in the canyons it's already too dark for photography. The sun is lower and more gentle in September which sometimes helps but also means longer shadows. If you give us more information on what you want to photograph we can help with some recommendations. :-)

Hi what fun outdoor activities could you recommend for our family of 2 adults and four children ages from 7-14? We like adrenaline, fun activities and would like to see the mountains, lakes and views. We are visiting end of July and would like to book something.

Hi Anna, there's plenty of fun activities in Interlaken for families, travelling with kids doesn't mean you have to miss out. You should definitely check out the Adventure Park, there's courses there for everyone. Family Rafting is also great for the whole family, as is Jetboating on lake Brienz and the Glacier Canyon in Grindelwald.

Hi Megan, we usually do pick up from Hotel Beausite in Unterseen, but it also depends on which activity are you booking. Most of our activities include pick-up service but not all. During the booking process you will have the option to choose a pick-up location from a list of hotels, train stations and popular locations around Interlaken. If you don't have this option then you need to find your own way to the activity start. I hope this helps, let us know if you need more details :-)

Hi, we provide wetsuit booties for you, you don't need to bring your own footwear :-) All you need is a swimsuit, towel and a taste for adventure!

Do you offer anything in early April? My family is interested in the scooter tour. Is it still too cold for this? We have three children who will be 3, 6, and 8. My son who will be 8 is already an amazing mountain biker like his dad. Could we do a scooter tour with my husband and I riding with our two younger children and my 8 year old riding his own or do we not meet the age requirements?

Hi! Early April is usually right in between seasons here in Interlaken. There is still some spring Skiing, and we open the Adventure Park around this time too. Unfortunately the scooter tours don't start until May when the snow has melted. I would highly recommend the Adventure Park for your whole family. It depends a little on what time of year you're planning on visiting Interlaken and how active you want to be!
Keeping it easy tips: (all year round)
- Free walking tour (guided tour around town, learning about swiss culture and the town itself)
- Funky Chocolate Club (learn to make your own swiss chocolates, super fun!)
- Jungfraujoch (visit the top of Europe, incredible views in the heart of the Swiss Alps!!)
Get involved!
- all year > paragliding (incredible way to see the area from the sky)
- winter > snowshoeing (another awesome way to get into the mountains)
- winter > night sledding (unique experience and really fun!)
- summer > river rafting (a few options to choose from)
- summer > canyoning (one of the best and most unique ways to see the area)
You can quite often combine 2-3 of these in a day depending on when you arrive etc.
