This town is a tourist Mecca disaster. The place is just littered with tourists and tourist traps and tourist shops smattered with some expensive jewelry stores. Along with not many good food choices and so many people in one town dinning is not a pleasant experience. If driving parking is a nightmare and the tourists just walk out in front of you so beware. I won’t be back! LauterBrunnen was beautiful just full of tourists and if you do decide to climb the water falls make sure you have good wet clothes and hiking shoes because it’s like an ice rink up there.

Interlaken – a city between lakes
Although we stayed in Zurich, we visited Interlaken on more than one occasion – on 03 October 2017 on our way to Jungfraujoch and again on 05 October 2017 when we had Jet Speed Boat ride in Lake Brienz. It's a fine looking tourist center, without a lot of attractions of its own. The main advantage of Interlaken is its excellent location: all attractions can easily be reached from here. If you want to see and do a lot during your stay, you can save traveling time by basing yourself in Interlaken. Interlaken is a lively town with many shops and a wide selection of restaurants and hotels. The location in the plains of the valley and in between the lakes results in better chances of good weather. The sky often clears up well before it does so in the mountains.
Interlaken is situated in the plains of the valley; not in the mountains. It is surrounded by the Bernese Alps though: the Jungfrau can easily be seen from the town center. The town is located on the edge of 3 regions: the Jungfrau region, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. 'Interlaken' in fact means 'in between the lakes'. It is situated between Lake Thun or Lake Brienz.
The town center of Interlaken may seem like a busy city, it is actually quite small. The town center is situated around the Interlaken West station. If you leave the station and turn left, you will enter the main shopping street.
Among other attractions, Indian visitors find it pleasing to see the statue of Indian filmmaker Yash Chopra. He had shot the film DDLJ in Interlaken itself.
There are many Indian restaurants in Interlaken. While we had lunch at Bollywood restaurant at Jungfraujoch peak on 03 October, we had lunch at Maharaja Palace on 05 October 2017 after we had Jet speed boat ride. Both thee restaurants provided real feel of India – while Indian food was going down in our belly, Indian music was going into our ears.

Interlaken is really focused on its tourism industry with a central tourist office that is very well stocked with lots of free leaflets and maps. The staff are very helpful, they looked up an event we had seen advertised in German, translating into English for us then explaining what the event was and looking up the times. There is also a tourist information office at the Interlaken Ost station.

Interlaken is one of the most beautiful MUST GO places in Switzerland. Boat ride is a MUST DO. your Swiss Pass is valid in all the transport including trains, buses, boats etc. 3 to 4 days Swiss Pass is highly recommended as it saves you a lot of money towards transport. Compare to rest of the Europe, Switzerland is a very expensive country when it comes to food.

I have been in INTERLAKEN some 30 times in my life, albeit some 40 years ago.
Everything changes and so I was prepared for the renewal in some way. Horror ! Nothing, but nothing is left of its discrete and classical style of a small town that once was all elegance. Ah ja...hotel victoria is still there, but surrounded by "nothing".
I was truly shocked by the degeneration of this, once, typical swiss town with all what "was".
Cheap shops, amongst the finest horlogerie...garbage fast food "things" and prices that are shamefull.....I decided to go have dinner in Victoria to pay less for much better quality in the end....prices for tourist dishes, badly served at 30, 40 euros.....incredible. Fortunately the boat tours on the lakes are still ok, although expensive....
I am sorry but my swiss friends have to do something to bring back swiss values....
Cannot be true !

It was with the help of the tourist office that we planned our hikes, there were very friendly and helpful and can also reserve your tickets to any destination, especially Jungfraujoch

We (my spouse and myself) were in the Interlaken Tourismus Information office a few days ago and the summary of what they can offer is something like "no much to do here at this time of year". Very sorry to here. Still the lake near the city is amazing.
