Bernina Express

Swiss Alps, Switzerland
About Bernina Express
The most spectacular way to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express from Chur / Landquart / Davos / St. Moritz - Valposchiavo - Tirano links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures. New: Starting on 11 May 2019, the Bernina Express will run from Landquart into Valposchiavo and on into the Italian town of Tirano. The route to/from Landquart through the Prättigau and the wild Zügen Gorge between Davos and Filisur prolongs the pleasure by just under 45 kilometres.

What a beautiful ride through the swiss countryside. The weather was great, sunny and blue skies with puffy white clouds.

What a treat this was. An absolute must for any visitor. The coaches had huge panoramic Windows so it was impossible to miss any of the fantastic scenery.. The trip takes exactly 2 hours and twenty nine minutes. Worth every penny.

This rail up over the Bernina Pass is so full of great scenery that you will keep your camera busy. It stops at the top and you can depart for 7 minutes. Service and comfort far exceed the famed Glacier Express.

We took the local train...sorry touristy Bernina express. We could open windows and take pictures and videos without window glare. Winding up glorious green valleys, through idyllic towns, with alpine lakes and towering peaks, it’s the best train ride I’ve ever taken. The next leg...More

Scenery is simply spectacular. Combined with the Glacier Express (the previous day), this ride was almost too much. The 2nd Class coaches aren't quite as comfortable as those on the GE but the ride's shorter, too. The pace is leisurely and the train is as...More

We did the day trip but there is only an hour or so between the two journeys, not enough time I think for any sightseeing.
