One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express...

One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express from Chur/Davos to Tirano (via St. Moritz) links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. One of the highlights is the panoramic journey through the UNESCO World Heritage RhB.

On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures.

As I want to maximize the utilization of my 1st class EuroRail pass, I have searched for the best value scenic train that I can use my pass. As taking Glacier Express is more pricey and I found mixed feedbacks from many people, so I took Bernina Express instead. With only EUR 26 reservation fee, the journey started from Chur... More

I had been wanting to undertake this trip since reading about it in a travel magazine some years ago and wasn't disappointed. We travelled as a couple from Tirano in Italy to Chur in Switzerland late November 2016. The trip combined the beauty of the Alps with their snow capped peaks and valleys together with the heritage of Italy. Words... More

We travelled on this train with Shearings at a cost of approx £45 each. The train was a lovely experience seeing the snow capped mountains etc. But sadly St Moritz was very disappointing. All the designer shops had blinds down yet they were open. St Moritz was very boring and not worth a visit in my opinion. It may be... More

I took the train from Chur to Poschivino, near the Italian border. To say it was amazing is to put it mildly. It was on time and very special.

This has to be one of the best trips we have done. We started in Zurich catching a connecting train to Chur. They run every half hour and we were booked on the 7am but got there early enough to get the 6.30am. As soon as the tickets for the Bernina were released (3 months out) we booked and we... More

We travelled from Zurich through to Varenna and took in the Bernina portion of the route from Chur to Tirano. I managed to find an extremely reasonable pricing for the route with information from an online train specialist site, and upgraded our routing to First Class in the observation carriage. I can't tell you how useful this was as my... More

Wonderful views and a great way to spend the day with my husband and friends! It is amazing to see the lakes and the diverse scenery throughout the train ride.

My husband and I went on the Bernina Express as part of a tour from our hotel in Cadenabbia, Italy. It was a full day trip 8am-6pm and about 1 1/2 hours of it was on the Bernina Express. The views were absolutely spectacular and we saw lots of glaciers which we had not seen before. The one difficulty was... More

What a trip. Seated in a wonderful glass panoramic view coach through some absolutely amazing scenery. Climbing 9000ft and taking 2hrs 40 minutes up to St Maritza I was just not prepared for some of the breathtaking scenery. Especially the aquamarine colours of the ice on the glacial top. We were lucky that the visibility on our trip was apparently... More

Took the line from Tirano to St. Moritz. It's a bit of a pricey ticket but a beautiful ride through the mountains. Great stops along the way. Wasn't the clearest of days near the top but beautiful nonetheless. Don't miss the view of the glacier!
