One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express...

One of the most spectacular ways to cross the Alps: the Bernina Express from Chur/Davos to Tirano (via St. Moritz) links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery. One of the highlights is the panoramic journey through the UNESCO World Heritage RhB.

On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures.

Great trip from Switzerland to Italy crossing really high Bernina Pass. Good in all seasons. Beautiful areas to stay in like Preda/Bergün to make sledge in Winter, St Moritz, Poschiavo. Did many portions of the way from 2011. I recommend to make the complete way in two days in order to hike or sledge (depending on the season) during the... More

May sound a little pricey and also my main worry was how the kids will survive two hours journey one way as they get bored very easily... nothing to worry about! We were lucky enough to take the trip on a sunny day, no haze, the views were just breathtaking! Kids were amazed, time went well too quickly! From snowy... More

Beautiful scenic train ride through the Alps. A bit expensive but well worth it. All day train ride in a car with panoramic windows stopping for lunch in Italy before the return trip. If traveling in the winter most of the ride back will be in the dark though. Only complaint would be that the windows where not very clean... More

We boarded the train in Tirano on our return trip from Chiavenna. We traveled on a budget with the Eurail pass, in the 2nd class coach which didn't cost extra. It was all worth it! The views were stunnig and breath taking. We traveled in early December so we could move from the left side to the right side to... More

We boarded the Bernina Express in Saint Moritz for a day trip to Tirano, Italy and back. The scenery was just spectacular as the train sound its way along the many twists and turns. Once in Tirano we ate at a restaurant just to the left as you exit the train station. I forget the name right now, but the... More

Checked all the reviews and booked a tour so just a week or so in advance so that I could get the best possible weather. Well, as we all know, no one can predict the weather perfectly and instead of the sunny but cold weather it rained pretty much non-stop the whole day all the way from Milan to Tirano... More

I had always heard about the train that crosses through the Swiss alps. I was glad when we visited Milan that we had a chance to book it. We decided to spend the evening in Tirano so we could board the early train to St. Moritz. The trip takes 2 hours. The scenery is beautiful and once you make the... More

We did a round trip Filisur-Tirano-Filisur when staying in Davos (direct connection from Davos to Filisur). The scenery is absolutely spectacular from start to finish, especially in the Bernina pass, unfortunately the drinks trolley was alongside our seats in the most breathtaking section. The train stops at Alp Grum for about 10 minutes for photographs on the Tirano-bound leg (it... More

Took Bernina Express from Chur to Poschiavo. Fantastic scenery and despite having very little snow at lower leve , high in the Alps there was plenty and the frozen lake was busy with walkers and skaters. The train was obviously geared to tourists and stopped or slowed in all the right places. Truly a memorable journey.
