While driving from Vaduz to Zurich aside the road there is an impresive lake carved between two rifts of mountains with beautiful villages as well at lakeside as in the hillsides. Some of them really pending on the cliffs.

I love the lake. It is clean and clear. The water was cold when I was there near Murg Quarten train station in August. I did not swim in the water as I did not bring my swim gear but played with the water at knee deep. As I was staying in Lofthotel nearby, I visited the lake every day... More

My freind have choicen this place while it appeared nicely when he was travelling to Chur. The place is next to an station and not that far away from ZH (around a hour) and its nice to swim and to enjoy here while its not really rushy. Mostly their are people from Switserland itself here, Take care for the stones,... More

We explored Walensee by going from Murg to Quinten by boat and then taking the hiking route from Quinten to Walenstadt. Quinten is a small cozy town that gives a great view of the Mediterranean-like lake. The town has a couple of restaurants and local honey/jam for purchase. All in all a very charming, small, car-free town with small windy... More

We opted for a half-day hike starting in Quinten and ending in Weesen. Since Quinten is not accessible by train, we took a ferry from Unterterzen via the Schiffsbetrieb Walensee (a private boat company; approximately 7-8 CHF per person one way). Quinten is situated in the foothills of the Churfirsten mountain range and as a result has a very warm,... More

From Weesen you can drive with a car to the mini town of Betlis, at the lake and at the foot of a massive steep rock. On top of the rock is the town of Amdem. The road to Betlis is worth the trip: a very narrow road that has a regulated time schedule for what direction one can drive... More

Walensee is my favourite stop when returning from Flumserberg or Pizol...Just to lie down in the grass and sunbathe in the summer (or swimming as well) or if there is more time take the boat to Quinten and enjoy the good food in the restaurant with red roof ;-) take the exit to Murg when driving the car at the... I came here with family straight from Turkey in the height of summer, and based on my preconceptions of the Alps I was afraid I'd be cold and want to stay indoors all weekend. I was definitely mistaken! Not only was the nature too remarkably beautiful, with the deep lake surrounded by mountains, it was surprisingly hot. In fact on... More

For hikers the Walensee offers very nice spots on the north side of the lake. As there is no road you have to hike. The walk offers the highest waterfall of Switzerland and at mid way there are some very good restaurants with local wine. The clima on the north side is very warm. Even figues grow there. One of... First of all, the Walensee is absolutely breathtaking as it's surrounded by the most interesting and beautiful Churfirsten mountains. The Walenseebühne, where Musicals take place outside in the summer is perfectly situated as you can sit outside, watch the Musical and still see all the mountains and trees. Every seat has a good view of the stage as the row... More
