We were told Mt Rigi was the place to go however, on the day there was a thick fog. We soldiered on driving up a terrible and narrow road only to find the fog thicker at the top. All we could see was the cable car (which is self service) and hear bells ringing from the sheep in the paddocks.

The ride upto the peak is beautiful and the scenery from the top is even more beautiful. There isn't anything much to do up there except restaurants. There were many people hiking in between the stations. The train and cable car ticket is covered in the Sbb pass

You should know that Switzerland is an expensive country for a tourist. When you want to decide on which mountain to go, i.e. Pilatus or Rigi, choose Rigi. Pilatus is too expensive and doesn't offer anything different than Rigi does. The great thing about Rigi is that you can access it fully with your Swiss Day Pass (the same day... More

I was debating between Pilatus and Rigi and couldn't find any real good reviews to help me out. When I arrived at my hotel, the gentleman helping my recommended Pilatus($36 with Swiss Rail pass - Rigi is free with Swiss rail pass) but when I asked if I could do both in one day, he said yes! Challenge accepted. I... More

A nice trip for all the family, going up with the cogwheel railway train and coming down with the cable car. The kids enjoyed the swings and slides when we took a short walk from the Rigi Kaltbad stop on the way down. We stopped for a snack at the Rigi Swiss Quality Hotel. Service was awful and the food... Based on Rick Steeves book we took the boat and then cable car to the top. We hiked to Cheese facotory for tour and fondue and then down the rest of the way. It was pouring rain so light rain gear and hats would have been very helpful.

Unfortunately we didn't get here on a good day, the rain and fog set in which made it very wet weather and cold at the top, not to mention ruining the view. We did however have good weather on the way up which allowed us to at least get to see some of the amazing views. Not cheap at CH... More

We visited Mt. Rigi whilst staying in Lucerne and were able to use our Swiss Pass on the trains. We caught the boat to Vitznau and went up to the summit on the red electric train and then caught the blue train back down to Arth-Goldau where we continued by train to Brunnen and caught the boat back to Lucerne.... One thing that I learned in Switzerland was that your really should not plan things ahead of time to the point that you cannot be flexible. I had a list of places that I wanted to see and then would look at the weather and decide which one would be good for that day. We felt lucky to have a... More
