Very popular sightseeing spot
Jun 2020 • Family
A great spot to stop by during your visit to Lucerne. If it’s your first trip, then this place is a must go. They also have a museum inside and a fun place for kids with a mirror maze.

Is it Aslan?
May 2021 • Family
Huge lion carved out of the flank of the mountain. History behind it is interesting, the benches in the little park right infront of it were a welcome spot for relaxing a bit. Yes, the lion could be viewed as resembling Aslan ;-)

Worth seeing
May 2021
Quite a surprise in the city of Lucern. One would not expect such a monument carved out in the rocks within the city. Look it up for more details on what it represents.

Such a sad monument
Apr 2021
There are plenty of monuments to dead soldiers around the world but this one to the Swiss Guards who lost their lives defending King Louis in the French Revolution is so well carved and symbolic.

The lion has such a sad expression on its face as it lies dying on a spear which has ultimately pierced its body and is killing it. It’s head is lying on a Swiss shield along with a French shield with the fleur du lis logo on it and plenty of spears, axes and swords

It’s a big sculpture which also takes you by surprise but beautifully carved and well worth seeing. It is in a nice little park which will beautiful during the summer

Beautiful statue
Jan 2021 • Couples
I love this statue as the expression on its face is so life like. The park was not full. The story is written by the front gate which is very interesting

Beautiful!
Nov 2020
One of the most beautiful sculptures on stone on the world, the Lion Monument is a tribute to the Swiss solders in Paris in 1792.

Learning about the Lion
Oct 2019
It most certainly isn't a monument to a lion. It is so much more and one much pick up a pamphlet or do some reading before visiting the Monument. Knowing the story and the length of time it took to create this masterpiece, I found myself standing in "awe" for quite some time. You can see the sadness in the lion's eyes and you want to reach out and comfort him. Seeing it was such a gift.

Beautiful and moving
Jul 2020
This was much larger than I expected. It’s quite a beautiful and moving monument. No entrance fee. There were not many people there. It was easier to take pics in the evening (fully in the shadows).

Worth your time to visit
Jan 2020
We stayed at the Hotel Monopole opposite the train station so to give perspective it is about a 20 min walk away. Despite their being restoration and upgrade works at the time, this did not distract us from the true meaning of this monument and it's impressive nature.

It's also a nice walk from the hotel along the lake edge on the way there and also a chance to explore some of the back streets on the way back.

Fabulous
Jun 2019
Jun 20: The lion monument is again a walking distance from our hotel de la paix. This is a fabulously carving done within the cliff. There is a history behind this - do read that and marvel at the lion. The reflection of the lion on the water is a moment to cherish. A must visit along with the next door glacier garden.
