- michelle m604 contributionsNice day trip to lake LucerneNice place to visit. We took the train Basel to Lucerne for the short day trip. The lake is beautiful with lots of places to relax shop and many restaurants around with great views. We took the ferry lake Lucerne to Bürgenstock only an hour return journey which was sufficient having only a limited time here. Definitely recommend this place.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 9, 2023
- Karen MKirkwall, United Kingdom1,211 contributionsVery scenic & beautiful lakeAmazing scenic lake - beautifully blue water. Lots of sections to the lake - not just oval in shape & edges are steep. Lots of boat activity on lake & loads to do water sports wise. Beautiful towns & villages surround the lakeVisited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 11, 2023
- tidge97 contributionsWe keep returningWe just returned from what I think was our 6th stay on Lake Lucerne. We just seem to be drawn back even though to different locations on the lake. We have stayed in Beckenreid, Hergiswil and in Hertenstein. We have stayed twice in each of these locations. Having a rental car makes it easy to drive around parts of the lake and visit some of the small towns like Brunnen, near by to Weggis. The mountain views are spectacular and the smaller villages are pristine. Always ready to return.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 25, 2023
- Phillip LMelbourne, Australia364 contributionsLake Zurich was beautiful, but Lake Luzern is stunningTake a cruise on the lake - it is stunning, with a backdrop of mountains and punctuated by little towns, villages and settlements along the coastline. The water is pristine and often changes colour. Better still, if you're heading to the Gotthard Panorama Express, catch the paddle steamer all the way to Fluelen, a trip of about 2.75 hours and the scenery just gets better and better (have your camera ready). If that is what you are doing, then you can book your luggage through to the train at the departure point in Luzern, so you don't have to worry about carrying it on board.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 19, 2023
- Topman4Whitley Bay, United Kingdom520 contributionsLovely interesting town.My partner and I were on a coach touring the area and had a day in Lucerne on Boxing Day. Few shops were open but the town was busy. We had coffee before doing a lake cruise which was very enjoyable with an interesting guide. Visit the wooden bridge. The town is well worth visiting.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 1, 2024
- Kamal PByron Bay, Australia8,348 contributionsIt was tranquil and soothingLake Lucerne was another beautiful lake that we saw in Switzerland. At Lucerne, the lake had mooring facilities for steamers and a broad pedestrian walkway to enjoy fair length of the beautiful water front that was close to the city. There were many species of wetland birds including Mute Swans, many types of Ducks, Gulls, Coots etc. The 19th century steamers were an added attraction with each steamer having its own character and elegance. Lake was a very convenient passage to travel to Beckenried, Brunnen, Fluelen, Vitznau and Weggis. Lake Lucerne’s beauty was enhanced by the bordering mountain ranges that were visible in its far side. To see its beautiful surroundings and feel the environment we did a boat tour which took us deeper to the interior. We were able to discover the hidden charm and tranquility. Awesome!Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 24, 2024
- LizM2Clydebank, United Kingdom1,830 contributionsBeautiful Lake LucerneWe were lucky to visit when the weather was sunny and clear and we were able to walk along both sides of the lake around the town. We also took a ferry trip and enjoyed the lake and villages surrounded by the beautiful mountains. BeautifulVisited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 14, 2024
- LindaKettering, United Kingdom13 contributionsParadiseWe stayed in Lucerne for a week on our honeymoon. Lucerne is beautiful and gives you the lake, mountains, beautiful buildings, and restaurants to chill out in. It is not a budget break, but use the Co op and Migros stores to buy picnic food some days. We visited the Lido near the transport museum. Use your free city pass to travel on the buses. At the Lido it is £8 for adults to get in. £8 for an umbrella and £8 for a sunbed. Well worth it for the day. There is a beach, a swimming pool and the lake to swim in. There are lockers and changing facilities. 2 francs for a locker. Overall, it's a lovely holiday.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 30, 2024

I was out and about in the region on what turned out to be a horrendously wet day. The original plan for open air activities was very much not going to happen so at lunchtime - when the rain really started in earnest - I jumped on the steamboat Uri. To pass the time to Luzern, I went into the first class cabin and had an excellent “fish and chips” lunch washed down with a very acceptable bottle of local beer. The price tag was a bit steep - but you are paying both Swiss prices and for the privilege of being on a vintage paddle steamer. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. I would throughly recommend for when the weather plays havoc with your planned activities!

The Lake Lucerne divides Lucerne in half. One half - with a Central Train Station and the "New" Town. The other half - with the Old Town. There are many boats (even in January) taking tourists for a sightseeing short cruises around the lake. One of many "postcard" towns in beautiful Switzerland with a beautiful and clean lake.

We holidayed on the shores of lake Lucerne Hergiswil
Hotel seepilates
Travel was on a shearing coach trip
Hotel was amazing and I’ve done a separate review
It was a wonderful holiday only mared by one of the crew or shearings false information .
Day to Engleberg was clearly documented that you would have opportunity to go on the revolving gondala at your own expense . We understood that and we’re happy to pay but the issue was for some unknown reason crew member did his best to discourage everyone from going up mt titlis . Even threatening us saying we would have to make it back to resort on our own . This resulted in the whole bus apart from 4 of us frighted to take the risk
So if you are thinking of going on this wonderful holiday double check with shearings regarding this .
Four of us went up and it was the highlight of the week and we made it back to bus in time

We just got back from celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and part of the journey took us to Lucerne where we stayed at the Hotel des Balances on Lake Lucerne. What an incredible lake with beauty all up and down the lake. The magnificent snow-capped Swiss Alps surrounds the lake and the beautiful villages make a picturesque portrait which can't be described and pictures don't do it justice. You have to experience it. Just an incredible part of the world!!!

Whenever we are in Lucerne we loved to walk on the quai, maybe enjoying a dessert and sitting on a bench while looking at the boats pass by.
The lake is extremely clean and it has multiple public boats allowing you to take tours at a bargain (for Switzerland mind you).
I've never actually bathed in it until now, but I hope I will be able to do it once, as the waters are crystal-clear.

This is a huge lake so take the 1hr yacht that brings you to the interesting parts without being too long and boring. Ideal for kids attention spans too.
Bring a bit to eat and drink and get a nice smooth boat around allowing you to see Lucerne and it’s architecture and surroundings from a different perspective.
Beautiful lake with great history which you can hear about if you download the required app which gives you the history as you sail. Beautiful to do on a sunny day of which there are plenty around this gorgeous area.

My husband and I loved Lucerne. It is breathtakingly beautiful and probably one of the most beautiful old cities we have ever seen. The surrounds are gorgeous, mountains covered in snow behind lovely old buildings, chapel bridge, swans and ducks everywhere, boat rides/cruises around the lake. We did a cruise - for an hour I believe and it was wonderful. We went in the afternoon so we’re sure to dress warm as it gets cold in December on the lake in the afternoon. The ride on lake was amazing with great views to take in and absolutely worth doing while in Lucerne no matter the season or time. The one hour cruise suited us in the afternoon allowing us to fill our days with other activities and not too long if you have kids/teens. Walking around the lake is a must as well. We walked all the way to the chocolate factory which was probably 20 min walk or so.

I visited with my family for a couple of nights. We stayed in a beautiful hotel overlooking the lake & mountains & we travelled into Lucerne in the evening. The town was lovely with plenty of shops & restaurants & public transport is free if you are staying in local hotels. The whole lake & towns are amazing with picturesque views well worth a stay.

This May we visited Lucerne and with us was one adventurous guy who decided to rent a motor boat for the 5 of us! I would never have thought of doing that but 3 of them were young and up for experiences. So happy he did rent it because it was terrific! I was a little nervous but the views from the lake looking back at the shore line were beautiful. I took several photos of 2 of the daring ones standing for their blog site. Really fun time you should try! Rental site is easy to find near crossover bridge.

Lske Lucerne is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and architecture and the water itself is almost crystal clear. You can enjoy the lake from land or on the water. There are ferries and tour boats that you can take to a few parts where you cam do some great hiking.

What cruise is available during january?
Written January 21, 2020
Headed to Lake Lucerne late October. Will we be able to do a Lake Cruise and Mountain Trip ? Any suggestions this time of year?
Written August 23, 2019
October can be absolutely gorgeous but also rather cool. Keep in mind that some areas will have already snow by then. Lucerne will be ok but on the cooler side. So I would suggest to bring warm clothes. As to the hiking.....you talk end of October so the weather can be somewhat dicey at that time of year. Before you go, please talk to the locals! It can be cold and foggy in some areas, so be better safe than sorry. The biggest mistakes tourists make...they don't listen to locals! Whatever you do, enjoy your trip!

How do you rent a small motor boat in Lake Lucerne? How much does it cost? Thanks.
Written May 22, 2019
They have a group around the lake - we took a half paddle boat for around 60 (3 persons)Swiss francs. I am unsure of exact price for motor boat but was much more - somewhere over 100 Swiss franc.
Hope this helps.
