Thumbs up for the art, especially the Picassos. Also for the building and the interesting history to the collection. However, given the museums size and extent of works, we found it way overpriced, even for Switzerland.

Lucern is prone to rain and when we visited it was about to flood. So it was inevitable that we would make a viewing. Very worthwhile with late period Picasso, Paul Klee and some impressionists. Well presented and not crowded. The foundation is from a family of art dealers who had good relationships with several of the artists.

It was going to be a rainy day and we didn't have set plans. This museum was a short walk from our hotel, so we figured we'd go. SO glad we did. The owner had a personal relationship with Picasso and some of the paintings exhibited had been either painted FOR her or given to them. Makes art that much more real! Art was impressive, story line even better.

This art gallery saved the day for us! We were refused entry at two buildings in Lucerne with art or museum collections because our UK Covid pass certificate doesn’t come with a bar code. This is how it is issued and there’s nothing we can do about it. The lady on reception showed common sense, and read the information that we were fully vaccinated, what with, when and where, and looked at our photo ID (passports) and the certificate issued by the Swiss Federal Health Authority allowing us into the country. This is a fabulous collection on several floors. We saw art by Picasso (lots of it), Chagall, Braque, Miro, Monet, Matisse and so many more. I LOVED it! Very reasonable entry fee. They sell postcards and cards at the exit. So if you are from the UK and want to see art, try this place on Pilatustrasse. Helpful notes on the artists available in English too to borrow from reception.

The museum is amazing, because it shows many extraordinary paintings of extraordinary painters with an amazing intimacy. We feel immersed into the creations of the artists and we nearly follow the way they give birth to some paintings (photos, drawings, initial paintings, and final ones...)
Simply amazing intimacy !
Thxs to Mrs Rosengart ( the video of the inauguration reflects what we felt on our in depth heart when visiting!...)

With some free time and a gloomy, cold day, we decided to visit. The collection more than exceeded our expectations. It’s a powerhouse! More Picassos than most major art museums plus the rest of the collection is stacked with heavy hitters. The museum is compact and well laid out. Staff provided us with an English language guide to the art. The location is less than five minutes from the station. Put this place on your Lucerne itinerary.

Do yourself a favour and view this Art Collection.
It is housed in an amazing Neo-classical building, a former Swiss bank, built in 1923-4. It exhibits the largest number of Picasso paintings I have ever seen in one place, displayed in large rooms where you can really get back and appreciate them from a distance, as well as up close. The entire ground floor is devoted to the work of Picasso. The first floor has works by many other big names, Renoir, Cezanne, Matisse, Monet; the names you will know but the works may be new to you. There are many other artists I was not familiar with, but I loved their work. The basement, formally the vault, is devoted entirely to the work of Paul Klee. I would rate this a must see if you are in Lucerne. We spent approximately 90 minutes there.

This has a collection of works by Picasso, major Impressionists and Paul Klee. They were donated by Ms Rosengart and represent her family's role in art dealing. She was a friend and muse of Picasso and there are a few wonderful portraits of her. There is an interesting display of photographs of Picasso at work and play. Well worth a visit. The works are beautifully displayed and make sure you watch the video on the top floor which gives a background to the collection and gift to the city. It was not crowded when I visited , so it was a pleasure to view the works too.
It is about 5 minutes from the station, ferry terminals and the historic centre.

Great collection of Picasso works, along with a substantial displays of other artists (Klee, Max Liebermann, and other Impressionist and Classic Modernist artists). Good location near railroad station, in a wonderful building. $18 CHF.

I was amazed by how many Picasso's works I found here.
From the portraits of Rosengart( owner of this musuem) , I could see something had happened between Picasso and Rosengart. Maybe purely admire or a romantic love affair. There are something viewers can easily sense through the art works. In Picasso's eyes, Rosengart (the owner of the museum) was someone special. This is a museum that you must go if you like Picasso. There are many famous artists works too. Don't miss it!

Thank you Travelling-model, yes. Ms. Rosengart is someone special. The stories between the rosengart family and the picassos is something very rare. Mrs. Rosengart is here every morning and she is a witness of this period. It is very worthwhile to visit the museum. Best, Rosengart Museum
