This is such a beautiful church both inside and out. The location next to the river is lovely and inside looks fantastic. We visited in the morning when the organist was practicing for a concert that evening which made it more special. Definitely a place to visit.

The Jesuit Church it is located directly on the Reuss, Radiantly beautiful and recognizable from afar. Construction lasted 11 years from 1666 to 1677 and is dedicated to St. Louis. Fransiscus Xaverius, patron of Lucerne. Inside you can see the beautiful Baroque and Rococo stucco, the main altar, the organ and the church treasure. Due to the good acoustics, the church is now not only used for church services, but also for the training of organists and as a concert venue.

Outside, it already impresses with its white facade and its 2 bulbous bell towers. Built around 1666 by Father Christopher Vogler on behalf of the Jesuits, it was the first large baroque church in Switzerland. Inside, you can admire the baroque and Rococo stuccoes, the high altar, the organ and the treasure of the church; there is also a chapel and the original pants of Bruder Klaus, patron saint of Switzerland. The ceiling stucco was redone in the middle of the 18th century.

The Jesuit Church is located on Lucerne's riverfront, near the covered bridge. It is a Baroque-style building, built towards the end of the seventeenth century, which inside has rich decorations and spectacular chandeliers. Entering this church the glance in the whole is really amazing and the showy decorations stand out on its white walls. Surprisingly, even the altars of the side chapels like the main one look like marble but in reality they are not, being also made of stucco and plaster. Free admission, definitely suggested visit.

I travel a lot, and I have seen a lot of churches in my life. I have to admit – this church was probably the most beautiful religious building I’ve ever seen. It is absolutely stunning – white marble and pink decorations make the view absolutely unforgettable. I would strongly recommend a visit

The Catholic Jesuit Church on the bank of Reuss River was built in the baroque style architecture. The front facade is adorned with striking twin green dome towers. The interior is just as impressive with beautiful frescoes and intricate details. It is both a spiritual and artistic church.

On Sunday 6th August, 2023, we started our Rhine Cruise. First it was a visit to Lucerne, Switzerland. We noticed a Jesuit Church adjacent to the iconic Chapel Bridge with 2 unique domes alongside the River Reuss, in the old town of Lucerne. We entered the church and discovered it was of Baroque design and saw the lovely paintings. The colours of the ceiling were exquisite. We decided to join the service - it is one of the most beautiful churches we have ever visited.

A stunning church - so different than what you would usually expect in such a historic religious site. The inside is worth seeing, particularly if you've enjoyed gothic or typical cathedrals of Europe. It is unique and impressive, with an interesting back story.

No one recommended we visit this church, but we were so lucky that we have a habit of poking our heads in most churches we come across. This one proved an amazing surprise. The astounding baroque interior is crowned with fabulous paintings, sparkling gild, and a fantastic ceiling painting. The church was originally built in the 17th century, but has been renovated several times since, including most recently in 2017.

Wonderful old church which was a wonderful respite during a cold winter day. More modern than most of the other churches that we visited during our trip but still beautiful, nonetheless. As you walk from the Chapel Bridge to the Spreuer Bridge, would recommend that you take a look and take a deep breath and spend some time here. Enjoy.

This Jesuit Church stands at the bank of Reuss river, just a few steps from the iconic Chapel bridge.
From outside it looks like an ordinary Baroque Church, but when we entered it appeared by far to be the most beautiful one we saw in Switzerland on our 8 days tour.
Terrific decorations in marble, stucco work, fabulous altar and organ,,,,just see the pics.

Looks good from the outside but you really need to open and enter those ancient front doors to get a view of one of the most amazing churches I’ve ever seen. The paintwork inside, the side altars, the main altar and the organ overhead are all spectacular.

Hard to describe and I couldn’t bring myself to take any photos as I would upset the parishioners praying inside.

This is free and a must see when you are in this beautiful city👍

I wondered around Lucerne on a cold December day and stopped at the Church. It was quite stunning as I walked in (much better than some of the pictures posted here). What was also magnificent was the live music being played by the mini orchestra / band. In the Church it sounded brilliant and so I decided to sit there for a while listening the the music and admiring the architecture and art, all around the walls and on the ceiling. This was indeed a nice part of my trip to Lucerne!

Personally I love visiting churches not only to absorb the energies in there but to see the art and architecture. This is but natural for an art lover like me. The Jesuitenkirche in Luzern is probably one of the biggest Baroque churches built and fascinating to just be seated inside this church and amaze yourself with the beautiful baroque paintings cascading the ceiling and walls of the church. Church masses and various music played there is something one has to personally experience. One of my favorite churches in Luzern and a must visit!

The Jesuitenkirche inside is glowing white, with the light streaming through the large unstained windows. Here and there are accents of color and gold. A welcome change from the heavy dark Gothic cathedrals. This is a place of a happy joyous God. Very well kept and beautiful. One side chapel is in full color and one contains the robes of the local saint. Simple, but ornate, and reverent.

This church catches the eye because of the unusual onion domes. Very nice and ornate.

I had a preconceived idea about Jesuits which was based around austerity. It's a view that I've now changed after entering this Jesuit church.

Wow. Painting, gilding, colour, amazing ceiling. Over the top in a wonderful Baroque style. Hints of Gothic. Photo ops. galore. An eye-opening experience and very much worth visiting.
