It’s great to see around the world that Railway Stations have become architectural delights.
This is no different with the old original gateway still in place as the iconic entrance to the station.
Just loved the structure and it’s design.
A master piece.

Swiss railway counts in world's best, and the same applies to their railway stations.
All of them are in the very city center, with a bunch of other public transport lines in front to take you wherever you need.
The station is a small town within a town with everything you need - food, storage, shopping,...
The old facade stands as a reminder of a bygone era in front of the new modern edifice - a very successful mix of styles.

The station is very clean and well stocked with shops, restaurants, hairdressers and more.

We left our baggage in the luggage lockers before going to explore the lovely city. They were very easy to use.

The station is well located and the main entrance/ exit takes you into the heart of the city.

Even for tourists who don't know a thing about the station, it is easy to spot the platforms and see information about the trains. I also saw a cute Globi-themed train car. Will definitely get on the Globi express next time!

There were two previous stations, with the first in wood opening in 1856. A second one was operational from 1896.

Fire destroyed it in 1971 and 20 years later its replacement was unveiled. A vestige from the previous one now stands as the fine arch in front. It has atop a sculpture called Zeitgeist by Richard Kissling.

A shopping arcade with many outlets including eateries is one of the fine aspects of the modern edifice.

Lucerne railway station was our convenient gateway to travel to Mt. Rigi and to see the famous wooden Chapel bridge, The water tower and the Lion monument. The building was a grand construction, very much modern to meet with current needs of travellers having shops, restaurants etc. within, with the old beautiful façade of the old building conserved with their ornamentation to give elegance to the precinct. The historical statues on the arch of the remaining part of the old building were extremely beautiful. Station was by the side of the lake making it easy to board the steamers that were operating in the lake Lucerne.

The staion is near to teh ferry terminals and the bus station. The place was designed by Calatrava and is superb. Ther is lots of space9 needed because it can get very busy) and there is a good selection of shops and services below ground level. ther is even a walk - in medical practice.

Lucerne station is very well connected with Trams and Boats. Walking out of the station and the Tram, Bus stops are well marked with Gate Numbers and Bus Numbers with Zones. The Boat Piers are close by. Chapel Bridge is walking distance.

It also has a Coop on the lower level to pick up bites and has a small food court.

The Lucerne Bahnhof is always our fist wonderful impression upon arrival by train in this city! It is a bustling location but always clean and attractive.
There are several shops on the main floor, but down one level is the large underground shopping district. There are many businesses from which to select.

Lucerne station is a busy hub and has a lot to offer. On the lower floor there is a supermarket and several food to go shops . We used the seated upstairs cafe which had a good menu and was self service. The station exit goes to the main bridge from the city to the old town..
