As we do every time we are in town, we headed last weekend to the walls behind the old Town.
It's an easy climb, it doesn't take more than 15 minutes from Chapel Bridge, but the path will lead you to a residential neighborhood and you'll be then rewarded with a really scenic view of the city.
The climb in the tower is a bit steep, so beware.
From the last time it seemed the trees in front grew a bit too much, and that took away most of the Panorama... A trim wouldn't be bad!
Overall though a great free attraction.

Museggmauer is the old medieval town fortification wall which protected the town of Lucern from the northern side.
Along it are nine watch towers starting with Nolliturm which is down by the Reuss river.
Walk along the walls path offers great views.

The Museggmauer is a well maintained piece of history. The wall is only open certain parts of the year so check before going.

When it's open you can walk the wall and take in great views and see one of the many displays inside. On the outside there is a well maintained path that you can walk the length of.

As part of a suggested walking route around the old city of Lucerne, the Museggmauer was a nice place to visit to get some views of the city and the lake from a height. That said, it is a hike, mostly uphill, to get there and not for those who have mobility issues. As I went on a Sunday, unsure if there is more historical information or tours available during the week. Climbing the larger tower is a lot of steps and then treetops block much of the view. Surprising.
Can be a nice place to visit for the views but YMMV.

I would not have missed much if I had skipped it. It is a steep climb or a lot of steps to just look at a wall. From the top, it is a little confusing coming down as we ended in a different part of town then where we started from. This could be disorienting in a new city.

A great walking experience, offering great views on the town and the landscape. Some of the towers include curiosities like medieval clocks.

Also, during summer the place is available till rather late (e.g. 19:30) so you can visit it in the late afternoon even if you do not want to block your afternoon agenda.

I traversed the Museggmauer in Lucerne on August 12, 2010. The structures, 12-century towers and a city wall, are magnificent in and of themselves. I found it a nice break away from the bustle of the city. The views from the towers were splendid... you can see clear across Lake Lucerne and over the expanse of buildings below the hill the wall is situated atop. I will definitely return back to these in the future.

It's a do-it-yourself attraction. I'm not aware of any tours - though I don't think a tour would be as enjoyable for viewing the Museggmauer. Take some time out of your day in Lucerne and visit these.

We visited Lucerne in December and read that this is closed at that time. We decided to walk up to the wall and see what we could see...surprise...we walked 100' above the wall and there is a delightful street with the same views, as well as lovely neighborhoods to stroll. We departed Old Town near the Omega Watch Store (on Museggrain) and walked straight up. Just above the wall is a charming chapel and sculpture. You can see all the towers from there as well as Pilatus and Rigi. Turn right on Museggstrasse and wind through the residential area on Brambergstrasse and you come upon another wonderful viewpoint of Lake Lucerne and Hofkirche. Continue left back onto Museggstrasse and cross over Zurichstrasse. Veer a bit to the left and you can see signs to the Lion Monument. There is a Coop grocery store on Zurichstrasse if you are thirsty. After you see the Lion, less than a block away is a great gift shop called Schmid-Linder that has a nice selection of gifts. Walk on back towards the lake and sit on the benches for a while and enjoy the view!!! Awesome walk!!! FYI you can not go up in the towers in December :(.

The view from the upper (southern) side of the Musegg Wall overlooking Altstadt is spectacular. I was mentally transported to an earlier time when attacking soldiers carried only a sword and shield. How overwhelming the wall and the 9 towers of the Museggmauer must have been. Even today walking along the foundation of the wall these “9 brothers protecting Altstadt” make one feel tiny. They look insurmountable! To make my mental trip to the middle-ages complete, I came across an elaborate roadside shrine that enclosed a half dozen short pews and had stained glass windows. I was also surprised by a sports club built below ground so as not to interfere with the experience of the wall. I was very pleased with myself that I was able to walk down the 120 steps (I counted them) from the Little Man Tower to the round Nolli Tower on the banks of the River Reuss on a pair of canes. What an unforgettable experience.

The old city wall and 9 towers still standing from the medieval times just underwent extensive renovations and are still offering a fantastic view over the roofs of Lucern.
The 4 of the 9 towers which can be claimed to the top offering similar views, hence we choose the Clock Tower to see the old clockwork on display, and the Männli Tower with the open platform offering the best panoramic views. The steps are a bit steep at places, so wear comfortable shoes.
A walkway between some of the towers allow for a short stroll between some towers.
Towers and wall walk are free.
Check opening times as towers and walk atop the wall are closed during winter. Access to the base of the wall and towers still reward with a great view of the old fortification and over beautiful Lucern.
