This monument is beautiful and looks like it belongs on top of a cathedral. It is tall enough to be be a steeple, but looks less religious.
There is a cure Cottage Cafe right behind it that is quite good, but expensive. The lake is directly in front and provides a nice view.

Along Quai du Mont-Blanc is the Brunswick Monument, it is an elaborately designed mausoleum which was completed in 1879. It was built to commemorate the life of Charles II, Duke of Brunswick. His entire fortune was bequeathed to the city of Geneva as long as a monument was built in his name as an exact replica of the Scaliger Tombs in Verona. It is an incredible sight and worth a visit whilst in Geneva.

PROS
* Prominent artistic striking unique structure
* Prominent location

CONS
* No explanation of what it is- what it's called and why??
* It is gated and locked and does not allow closer observation and inspection

"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... as i walked from the train station to Jettdoe. I came across it, studied it from various angles, took numerous "helpful" 👍 photos 📷 and departed, knowing no more about it than before i discovered and happened upon it.

WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It is free to see a monument in a small city park

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
No

ADVICE
Even if you are "right there anyway," I don't see any reason to "visit this place."

This is a mausoleum built in Geneva to commemorate life of Charles ii,Duke of Burns wick. He promised to give his wealth after his death to the city of Geneva in exchange for a monument to be built in his name, insisting that it has to be a replica of Scaler tomb in Verona in Italy.

Located across the road along the waterfront promenade, the Monument Brunswick is easy to locate as it is huge and obviously different from the surrounding buildings. Built in 1879 as a mausoleum for the Duke of Brunswick, Charles II. He was able to convince the city to build the monument in lieu of him bequeathing all his money to the city.

The monument is rather ostentatious in my opinion, but reflects the industrial age of the mighty wealthy. We preferred seeing the archeological exhibit at the Saint Pierre Geneve Cathedral, sitting on the largest wooden bench in the world, visiting the “Broken Chair” and seeing all the flags at the United Nations—one of the roadblocks on the Amazing Race. We also enjoyed the food at Manora’s at Manors Department store not too far away.

Seeing the Monument Brunswick is a quick stop. You just have to be careful crossing the street from the waterside promenade.

Entry to this monument is free and it provides an picturesque environment with Lake Geneva facing it. The Brunswick Monument is a neo-Gothic-style mausoleum of Duke of Brunswick built in 1879. The Duke left his immense fortune to Geneva under one condition that the city would build a mausoleum at a prominent place and it would be a replica of the Scaliger Tombs in Verona, Italy. The monument has the shape of a small temple and covered by a baldachin. This mausoleum is located at Place des Alpes next to the Richemont Hotel, the Beau Rivage Hotel and the Hotel de la Paix, three of the city's five stars hotels. Not only the awesome architecture of the tomb, entourage of expensive luxury cars can be spotted here parked outside these hotels.

This Brunswick monument is situated in a small park opposite the lake shore. Worth taking a look at it on your way to walk along the lake shore. Was clean and well maintained

There's nothing particularly eye-catching about this monument but the story behind its creation does no credit to the man it honors nor the city's motive in honoring him. Charles II, an exiled duke of Brunswick, Germany, died in Geneva, leaving his fortune to the city on condition that it build a monument to him, a copy of a mausoleum in Verona, Italy.
