I visited Victoria Hall in order to attend a concert with Beethoven's symphony no 9 and I liked the place very much. It's a neoclassical style built music hall and theater with excellent acoustics. If you have the chance to attend a concert there, do not hesitate to go!

This is a scrumptious, little jewel box of a hall and well worth the effort to attend a concert here. I went to Mozart's Requiem last night with an outstanding choir, good acoustics, dazzling interior. Suggest you don't try to buy tickets on their online website; no diagram of the hall and you have no idea of the seating arrangements...and there are lots of special categories, small box seating, side seating, upper balcony, and even seating behind the stage, plus wicker chairs, padded chairs etc.. The hall is small, so even the seats on the ground floor all the way in the back are OK, especially for a concert where you want to sit in the middle and not to either side. The tourist office pulls up the diagram and you can visualize the arrangement and what's available.
Of course, it's expensive ...so I was wondering why there were no discounted tickets like I have purchased at other venues and countries. The answer came just before the lights went down (at precisely 8:29) and the ushers moved to close the doors, the cheap seated people on the outskirts of the theatre and hidden in the rafters (at 20 Francs) all made a mass move (un characteristically-as it seems the Swiss are rule followers) to the more expensive seats (125 Francs!)...before I even knew what was happening and was completely shut out of the seat migration! Guess this is perfectly accepted, so if the concert isn't a sell out...quickly move to a better seat!
Keep in mind, it seems that very few places have A/C-it was a very warm day and the concert hall was stuffy, so leave your fur or jacket at home, besides even at a Saturday night concert there were people in blue jeans (don't suggest this, but it is casual). Would suggest to dress smart casual and very light.
At intermission the bar on the first floor opens or you can go outside. Bathrooms are packed and small. Generous intermission time for the concert I attended...about 20 minutes.
Lovely concert hall and beautiful music! Go!

I am a big supporter of culture during travel and VICTORIA HALL is a beautiful and historical part of Geneva history. It was a gift from the British Consulate to the Swiss people in the time of Queen Vicoria and the grand empire period of British history when "the sun never set" on the Empire and Britannia ruled the world. Due to such wealth they could build this gorgeous building as a gesture of international friendship and appreciation of the Swiss people.
There are many wonderful concerts and some tickets are really cheap, as little as CHF20 if you book in time. I have seen many jazz, classical and others wonderful concerts over the years. There is a little cafe too so you can go early, drink an expresso or have a glass of wine, and people watch, as it is just before the coat check and dominates a view of the main entrance.
There are many lovely restaurants in the area for a late after theater supper, which is the traditon, and you must book a reservation, as the theater crowd will be packed in everywhere around.
So cheers everyone !

I was recently at the Victoria Hall for an event. The concert hall is quite beautifully decorated, and has wonderful acoustics. However, the hall has a very odd shape - it is sort of like a rounded square rather than the typical amphitheatre shape. What this means is that if you are in the upper balcony (there are two balcony levels), depending on where you sit, your view can be nearly completely blocked. If you come to an event here, make sure to spend the money to get good seats, otherwise you might be extremely disappointed that you cannot see the stage!

My choir had a concert there and it was really good. The acoustic was pretty good compared to other halls we have being in, well the look from the inside is just breath taking you have to see it. I also liked how you get free wifi so that's a plus.

I was on a Suisse Romande concert in Victoria Hall, the conductor was Jonathan Nott and I enjoy Haydn and Beethoven music there. I bought the cheapest ticket, this was only 10 CHF, but I could enjoy the athosphere of the barock Victoria Hall enterior and fantastic music. Try it, if you travel to Geneva!!

We attended a concert by l'Ochestre de la suisse romande at Victoria Hall. It's a small but beautiful concert hall with nice acoustics. Perhaps a few less positive points, though. The chair are generally quite hard, so it's not easy to stay seated for a longer time. Also, during the concert the temperature inside the hall increased enough to dry out the air, hence lots and lots of coughing by members of the (ageing) public. Why not distribute free "anti coughing candies" as is done in other concert halls around the world? Also, the bar accepts only cash (swiss francs, although they can give back in swiss francs even if you pay in euros), no credit cards.

There are not many concert halls left in the world that are ornate but also have great acoustics. At Victoria Hall, each concert is an event - such a beautiful and intimate space. We performed Mahler Symphony No. 2 there and even though it is a huge work, somehow it fit into this compact space. The audience was terrific and the space so compact, it felt like the audience was on stage with us.

Had the opportunity to attend the symphony on a Saturday at 1100 geared for families. There was a woman that spoke in French about what was going on in a symphony and about some of the instruments so that children could learn. I speak English so although I don’t know what she was saying I love the idea. The venue was great and the music wonderful. I’m so glad I had a chance to enjoy this and so reasonably priced at just 15 euro per ticket.

Is it possible to visit the hall without seeing a concert? I just want to look at the architecture and decor.

How close is Victoria hall to the train station? And any tips on reasonable hotels in the area

It's about 10 min by tram from Cornavin - central train station.
There are plenty of hotels around Cornavin - check Booking website and look at hotels location on the map (website offers this option) but maybe not immediately near the Victoria Hall.

Gostaria de receber o programa do teatro no mes de setembro de 2016. Há dificuldade de se conseguir ingressos? Obrigada pela atenção.
I would like to see a photograph of the old ziegler organ that was destroyed in the 1984 fire. I cannot find one on the internet.
