Place Molard, today an exciting space with many fine restaurants, was once one of the city’s ports. And as such it needed protection. Hence the need to build a defensive Tower.

What we admire today is a reconstruction of its 1591 form complete with ornamentations and Coats of Arms.

We saw it at night, when at its most attractive profile. At the apex a lantern was aglow making it particularly atmospheric.

We passed by the Molard Tower as part of our group's walking tour. It was previously a military tower from the 14th century, now surrounded by restaurants and shops. It is now an interesting looking tower with a nice facade.

This beautiful tower is surrounded by new orribile palaces. It’s one of the ancient towers built in 1591 to defend the harbor.

It is a military tower dated back to the 14th Century. While walking from the Old town and going towards the lake, this tower will get your attention. The area is famous for its food, shopping, and architecture. Many visitors have suggested seeing this place at night which I, unfortunately, could not do that. There is a bar on each floor of the tower and is considered as a romantic place for a lovely evening or dinner.

This beautiful piece of architecture is located on Place du Molard and actually hosts a bar inside spread over various levels. Quite unusual and not really ideal for people with limited mobility or with children but a good, original alternative to other places to have a drink and eat too.

Molard Tower is pretty, but the big attraction is the square in which it is located. The square has lots of shopping and on some weekdays, a great local farmer's market. Its very convenient to public transit (near the Bel-Air stop and along the #12 tram and #3 bus lines). There are plenty of sidewalk cafes, but these are the more touristy and the not as unique/local restaurants. Don't go out of your way to stop here, but rather pass by the square as you wander down the street taking in the shops (and the farmer's market if you're lucky).

It is not easy to miss the Molard tower and PlaceMolard when visiting Geneva. Take the boattrip on a mouette from the Kempinkski hotel, and then you walk right into it. The tower is picturesque, the restaurants around Place Molard are all great, with Café du Centre my favourite. Now choices have to be made: will you retreat to the Tower and then take on the upmarket Rue du Rhone for some hardcore shopping ? Or will you move on to the rue du Marché where the trams pass, cross and start your climb to the delights of Geneva's OldTown?

This place was a really fun experience. La Tour du Molard (Molard Tower) is a wine bar inside a tower in the place du Molard. It spans a number of floors - each one having a small bar area, as well as the stairwell, which has little bar tables along the windows of the tower, so you can have a drink while looking out at the Place du Molard. The interior is really nice, it has a historic feel to it, but the furniture is new. Overall it is very cozy, the service was good, and the wine selection was also very good - boasting a number of excellent local wines. We were here in December, and I imagine it was a slow night because I often walk by this place and see a number of people standing outside. But if you have a chance, come on by for a vin chaud or a glass of wine - you won't be disappointed!

This is nothing special and not worth a visit, but it is nice to pass by if in the Molard area, which is worth walking through on the way to the old City.
