They are all beautiful and interesting. In the early 90's, the sound of the water fountains in Bern remembered you how bored can be a traditional Swiss city on Sunday's afternoon. Today the activity have change and I cannot say if by nostalgy or by age, I miss now the old times where the only noise of the downtown was reduced to their water falling in those not too cold days

Close to Zytglogge Tower is this delightful addition to the great streetscape. Constructed in 1535 its current name was adopted only in the 19th century.

At the apex is a helmeted bear bearing a shield and flag. At each side he has a sword. At his feet is a bear cub munching on grapes.

Next is a female figure wearing a crown. Then an ornate column, continuing till the water spouts.

Right on the Kramgasse, this is a fascinating fountain. One wonder what was the purpose of creating some figures on the fountains. But they are good to see.

Located at the western end of Kramgasse street. It is Bern's first figure-topped fountain, an interesting combination of historical tradition and heraldic personification. It was built by Hans Hiltprand in 1535, depicting an armoured bear – Bern's heraldic beast – bearing the arms of the house of Zähringen.

The history of the city of Bern proper begins when Berthold V, Duke of Zähringen founded the city in the late 12th century - 1191 being the official date. At that time, much of today's Switzerland (then considered part of southern Burgundy) was under the authority of the house of Zähringen. The Zähringer leaders, although with no actual duchy of their own, were styled dukes by decree of the German king and exercised imperial power south of the Rhine. To establish their position there, they founded or expanded numerous settlements, including Fribourg (in 1157), Bern, Burgdorf and Morat.

The Zähringerbrunnen fountain built 1535 on the splendid street Kramgasse. The fine detail of the fountain is amazing with the backdrop of the Zytglogge Clock Tower. Kramgasse is a wonderful street line on both sides with beautiful old buildings with a mixture of retail, restaurants and embassies. It is also the location of the famous Einstein Cafe and the house where Einstein lived for some years in Bern. Kramgasse is a must visit for a nice casual stroll to absorb the rich history of the area.

One of many beautiful and historical statues and fountains in Bern. This Zahringerbrunnen is close to the Zytglogge clock with the beautiful bear display, so you can't really miss it as a landmark.
Bern has some incredibly detailed landmarks, take time to walk down the road and inspect all of them. The recurring bear theme is awesome.

One of Bern's 250 Renaissance fountains, the Zahringer Brunnen is located along Kramstrasse, and in front of the Clock Tower (Zytglogge). Commemorating the city founder, Duke Berchtold von Zahringen, who established Bern in the 12th century, it features an emblematic armored Bern bear and the Zahringer coat of arms. The city was named after a bear killed in the forest nearby. Bern's association with the animal can be seen today in the flags, statures and live bears in the city's Bear Park.

The fountain is dedicated to the founder of the city - an event that took place after a bear hunt. The fountain itself is one of the 12 fountains from the Station to Bear Pit.

The bear fountain is a helmeted black bear with a banner and shield with a cup devoting grapes at its feet. Fabulous stone fountain from the 16th century.

The Zahringerbrunnen is a fine example of the many functional street fountains with center statue-art. They offer fresh drinking water (at least all utilized as such and we had no ill effects!).
