Beautiful old town. Rapidly flowing river runs through the town. The national sport to flow down the river. Only for strong swimmers. Swimming pools near the river.

I was not expecting a lot based on some of the reviews I have read here. Bern was a delightful surprise. Easy to walk around, safe and amazing historical buildings. People are very friendly and most speak English, German and many French.

2 or 3 days would be good but if you really want to relax and enjoy some of the fine eateries as well as soak up the atmosphere try for 4 to 5 days.

They have free rentals at the Banhoff (train station) with a deposit of 20 CHF or so. Biking and walking are great alternatives unless it is raining. Safe travels!
