This is a very small town, so I would suggest just to take a walk and explore each and every corner of the city, the historic buildings and their architecture is lovely and you may find few exclusive things like beautifully maintained gardens while on your walk!

We arrived at the central station after coming in on the park and ride from Neufeld. This was great as we had no hassles with parking. The old town is vey compact and easy to walk around. There are lovely old buildings cobbled streets and small shops. We spent five hours in Bern and could have spent longer there if we had... More

We arrived to the central station in bern - Bahnhofplatz by tram from our hotel. After a short breakfast, we started walking down the main street - at this point named Spitalgasse towards the river. The tram and traffic passes in the center of the street but there are walkways, interesting stores and beautifully adorned buildings on both sides. Every... More

Switzerland is pretty, bottom line. The only thing disturbing is the grafitti...all over Switzerland. This is a new phenomenon as there was virtually mone in 2000. That said you have to go and see the Einstein Shrine....thats right the apartment where Einstein wrote his theory of relativity is right there......awesome.

If you walk from the central station to the east you'll notice that the houses get older and older. The city grew from the east to west (where the river makes a bend outwards), starting in 1191 and everytime it grew it put the city walls further out.. You'll still see remnants of that, e.g. around the Zytglogge or Käfigturm.... More

If you're in Bern a must do (and fortunately since Bern is rather small also a 'easy-to-do) is walking down the old town. Bern is pretty cute and charming anyways (and pretty much anywhere) but in those small alley's towards the famous river Aare it gets even more cosy. There are also a good amount of small restaurants to sit... More

I loved absolutely the old town, the view to the river, which is of such a nice blue color, unlike in most other cities. There's a lot to see, definitely worth visiting for a weekend.

Bernese town center is UNESCO world heritage for good reasons : authentic buildings and churches, the streets, the fantastic monuments ... Kramgasse + Gerechtigkeitgasse imo is by far the greatest most fantastic shopping street in Europe with many artisan-style and authentic small shops (some quite expensive though).

A totally different feel from other cities of Switzerland...takes you back to the medieval times. The old clock tower was impressive. Enjoyed the yummy sandwiches at Hollyfood across Einstein house! The highlight was also the services of Rickshawalla Sohen who did a great job explaining the history of Bern and a one hour ride in the Ricksha!
