Great Sarah Morris exhibit, especially her film art!
Had about 2 hrs time to visit before my train back home, which really was not enough, largely because of the curated Sarah Morris' film art. Great presentation quality and powerful work. I also really loved the Hamed Abdella Focus. Will definitely come back for another visit.

    Happy we visited!!!
Make sure you see this museum when in Bern, Switzerland. You will need to take a bus from the city center; however it is very easy to get there. The building itself was an architectural treasure. The art work was extensive, but not overwhelming. I have a better appreciation for Paul Klee after visiting. Definitely worth a visit.

The main reason to visit Bern
The grounds are truly amazing, and the collection and information on Klee makes you understand what a great artist he was. Easy to get here via bus from the main train station. The cafe is forgettable, but a private restaurant on the premises makes this a great morning plus lunch visit.

Beautiful building and a good museum, free with Swiss pass
Very enjoyable, and since we had the Swiss pass, the price was right (free). Really beautiful building, especially as you get up close and see the field growing through the structure. Very cool. But inside was good as well. There was info about Paul Klee's life and a fair amount of his work. I find these types of exhibitions far more enjoyable than a museum with multiple artists, since you can actually learn about the artist and see how their work progressed over time. They had pieces he had done as a child which is always interesting to see. Then, there was also an exhibit of an American artist named Sarah Morris. I had never heard of her but her work was awesome, huge and bold and bright colors. Extremely quiet on a Sunday too, which made it even better. Definitely recommend with a Swiss pass! Easy to access, a nice walk from Old Town then we took a quick bus back to the train station.

    Great little museum in Bern
I love art museums and this one was a great one to visit. Bern has free entries to museum on Saturdays in August so that was a nice surprise. The museum has a great collection of Paul Klee as well as little chairs you can carry with you if you need to sit and observe. There is also the QR codes you can use your phone with to learn more about the different pieces. I didn’t know too much about Paul Klee and I really enjoyed this museum.

First, I think it is very dishonest of the museum staff that they do not tell you that the museum is free with the Swiss pass. We pointed out that we had the Bern pass from our hotel and they said that that was only for transit. They never told us that if we had Swiss Pass, the museum is free. So we paid unknowingly. Pretty shady!

The building is fairly interesting, although not as expansive and beautiful as the Fondation Beyeler which Piano also designed. My partner and I went to this museum because we didn’t know much about Paul Klee, and wanted to learn more. Unfortunately, although they have a very large collection, they do not display it much. They take a selected group of works, to create a single themed exhibit, and that is all that you will be able to see. This, it turns out, amounts to a small show and not necessarily his best works. Lots of drawings rather than paintings. We managed to see the whole show in probably an hour and a half. So we were a bit disappointed in that. I recommend the audio guide because the placards alongside the works of art have no information regarding the significance of the work, or the intentions of the artist. Another negative is that there were very few benches to sit and contemplate the art. Lots of movies were part of the exhibit and they were in German without translation so those were a waste.

Quite disappointed with our visit. The building is fantastic, and offers a magnificent exhibition space, but exhibitions are limited to one of the 3 aisles. One on paintings by Lee Krasner that were unfortunately not very attractive (to us) and another on Klee's drawings that were at best moderately interesting... these were presented with extracts of Charlie Chaplin movies, at least this was funny. Poor offer for a hefty price.

What a nice museum. When we visited there was a Bridget Riley exhibition in the basement, and a selection of Paul Klee’s works chosen by local school children. A super café in the building and a nice shop. My husband is a huge Paul Klee fan and has wanted to visit for years. He was not disappointed.

There are several lifts for people who struggle with stairs, the loos are very clean, and to top it all, it’s super easy to visit by public transport straight from the main Bern railway station. On the map it looks miles out of town and when you get there it’s taken about 6 minutes!

Beware: even very small rucksacks are banished to a (free) locker in the basement so make sure you have big pockets for passports and money. And Swiss German speakers are not as happy to launch into English or French as you might wish.

* We did notice that some of the interpretation panels about Klee say rather different things in the different languages.

As a lover of modern design and architecture, I really rated this building. I didn't know much about Klee as I have never been to a major exhibition of his work, but I enjoyed the current exhibition and the fascinating films of the dance company featuring both able bodied and disabled performers. They worked well intertwined with the exhibition.

I found the Max Bill exhibition alongside this fantastic, especially all of the metal sculptures which were so fluid. I liked it so much I bought the accompanying book even though they currently don't have an English edition - I don't mind as I can use it to improve my German!

The centre also has a lovely café serving good hot and cold food and refreshments, we had lovely sandwiches and coffee before walking round the exhibition spaces. I'd love to come back here for another exhibition, it's only a short bus ride away from the city centre and old town.

From downtown Bern we took Bus No 12 to the Paul Klee center and enjoyed the excellent show of Joan Miro.
All paintings from Barcelona.
The curation was outstanding and we learned a lot about this artist.
Not only was the approach to this place very easy ,but the 3 waves from Renco Piano are really worth seeing it .
The other expedition about Paul Klee was also worth experiencing but we had time only to see the film about this Bauhaus master .
We wiil repeat this visit
So you have 3 hours to spare in Bern visit the Paul Klee Center

The infrastructure of the Zentrum Paul Klee was excellent and has so much potential. We were disappointed, however, with the exhibition from the permanent collection. We felt that these did not come near to representing Klee's best work. I think the staff agreed because they had discounted the admission because some of the galleries were closed. Even with the discounted CHF 13 per person admission (net of a senior citizen discount), we felt the value wasn't there. Unfortunately, a disappointing showing of the Klee works on 9/23/2023.

We thought that the Klee Museum was the highlight of our visit to Bern. It is a gorgeous facility and Klee is one of the more interesting artists of the 20th century. The curators do a terrific job of laying out his work and his story, placing it in the context of Bauhaus and other movements. This museum is also quite kid friendly. Although we didn't bring our kids, we loved watching others experience the exhibition.

This museum has a great subject (Paul Klee) but had a provincial attitude. If you are not a German speaker you will be made to be treated as an afterthought. No point in expecting to be able to walk around and understand anything if you don’t understand German. You have to refer to tiny translation leaflets with tiny textes. Ugh..
Giving three stars for this but the exhibit is a fiver.

A great museum. There is no permanent collection, but the museum puts on exhibitions showing Paul Klee's art with different themes. There was also a really nice exhibition on the work of Bridget Riley when I went.

A very poor experience . It’s not the templum of the great artist I expected . The museum claims to have almost the opera omnia of the artists ( 4000 works ) but has decided to show very few paintings , mostly sketches. The structure was built with a very very generous donation of the Müller family…never money was more wasted …
