Good for Sherlock fans!

Good place to visit if you are a Sherlock Holmes fan. Fernicular railway to the bottom of the falls, then a long walk to the spot where Holmes and Moriarty tussled.

On a sunny day, this was a pleasant detour. A small train takes you up a mediocre summit from which you begin the ascent on foot. The climb is quiet steep and not suitable for kids, a bit slippery too. After about 30 minutes you will come across a small bridge from which view and enjoy the water fall. There... More

We went up by funicular train which was part of the fun for us. From the train stop there is a quote steep walk along stone paths to the top. Several viewing spots along the way. This is the waterfall featured in Sherlock Holmes where he has a fight with Moriarty so there were lots of Sherlock fans around. We... More

We walked to the base of the falls from Aareschlucht (the Aare Gorge) decided to hike up instead of taking the funicular. There were quite a few paths, but it was a bit confusing on exactly which to take to visit the falls (we started from a strange point so maybe it wasn't actually confusing at all). Perhaps it would... More

Took the funicular railway up to the falls. The gentleman running the train was very helpful and very pleasant. We didn't have a lot of time as we had arrived quite late, but nevertheless we were amazed by the sheer scale of the falls and the vast amounts of water cascading down from the mountain. It cost CHF 10 each... More

Truly a unique experience riding up with this mountain train and seeing the valley unravel beneath you in all of its glory. The falls are very nice given they are right in the middle of the alpine mountain... Very nice place!

We got joint tickets with the Sherlock Museum for a good price. Toured the museum and then drove to the track up the mountain, not sure what to expect. We where getting wet as soon as you get off the train. the spray from the falls is massive. it had just rained for 24 hours before we arrived. Not sure... More

We took the sensibly priced funicular railway to the top of the falls. The views from there were amazing, but it should be noted that the funicular only gets you about half way. There's a good 30 minute climb to reach the summit, and a further 30 minutes of Ricky paths a switchbacks to reach the point we're mister Holmes... More

The funicular took us to the top of the falls or you could hike it up there if you so wished. Great veiwng point when you alight the funicular with a "Sherlock Holmes" cut out photo opportunity just for fun! There was a bit of spray from the force of the falls here too. You can climb higher and higher... More

Bottom line: a great reserve, don't go deeper with small kids. We've visited this place with small kids, the Sherlock Holmes story caught them and added some nice background to the visit. The train up, the waterfall with Sherlock's image next to it and a short walk in the reserve were great and take less than an hour. There are... More
