About
The flat on the second floor of Kramgasse No. 49 was rented by Einstein from 1903 to 1905. It has been restored in the style of that period to reflect Einstein's crucial years in Bern. The flat is open to the public. From the main train station you get to Kramgasse No. 49, if you take the direction of "Bärengraben," walking under the right-hand arcade.

A name well-known, the man less so, this walk through Einstein’s private life and home illuminates the history, challenges and failures of his path. Highly interesting in that at various points on his path he was dubbed a failure. Before you exit his house, stop by the cafe on the first level to gather your thoughts

Visited the museum today and it was amazing. I've always heard that he's had a small apartment in Bern while studying at the University and I've finally got to visit it. The museum manages to offer insights into his life, love and family. You can visit the museum for CHF6 and you can get the entrance tickets at the door without having to book in advance.

One of the most extraordinary minds ever resided here for two years, 1903-05, during his seven year stay in Bern.

In the former upstairs apartment a riveting account of Albert’s life and that of his family is outlined. Photographs show Albert as a 14 year old, his family life and with scientific colleagues.

His employment as a Clerk in the Patent Office didn’t hinder Einstein’s momentous theoretical formulations in physics, culminating in the 1905 publication of four papers, which included his famous presentation of Special Relativity.

1905 is called his Miracle Year as it revolutionised physics and how the world and universe is regarded.

A treasured artefact is the desk Albert used in the Patent Office and it is now the Museum’s reception desk.

A small terraced house near Bern city centre where Einstein lived for a few years in his younger days. There are a few dresses from the period and a baby cot but not clear if they were his family's. You have to pay CHF3 to get in and they only accept cash. On the second floor they're is a small auditorium playing a short film on Einstein and the next room displays some of his letters and photos chronicling his life. The whole place can be covered in 2 hours.

Today we visited what was supposed to be Einstein's house. In reality one enters a small room with some family portraits. The visit, reading the information they have there, lasts five minutes. The entrance price is not proportional to the experience during the visit. Very disappointing.

For 6 francs this was definitely an interesting and budget friendly activity. The apartment is small and one can get a feel of what Einstein's life might have been like in this small enclosure. One floor higher a short film is shown about Einstein's life and there is an exhibition documenting his life. I can definitely recommend this as an interesting place to visit.

What an experience to be able to visit the house Einstein lived in. It is a very small museum but it has excellent displays. It was extremely warm when we were there with no a/c and little breeze. It does require climbing stairs as well but it was well worth a brief visit for the history.

We had the Swiss Travel Pass and it was 50% off. We were in Old Town and way back to our hotel. The museum only took cash so we had to go to an ATM. Luckily, we made it just before they closed. Einstein really didn’t live here very long and the display is small. If we were constraint with time, we would have not bothered.

It is located on one of the main touristy street anyway, so why not visit it. Unless you are a fan of Einstein then you don't need this persuasion. It is a quite small museum for a relatively fair price. Might take a little work to find an entrance. It has a video and a small area to walk around were he used to live. I did enjoy it, but I like science and things related to it.

The most interesting thing in the Einsteinhaus is to have in front of you objects that were part of Einstein's life. The visitor must bear in mind that the tour is gonna be quick - Einstein and his wife lived there for aprox. 3 years just before his academic ascent. For the details in the everyday-life of the Einstein family at their beginning and for the small price, it is worth the visit.
By seeing that old house dishes used by one the exponents of the modern world, you get a respectful feeling. His life was pretty tough!
