Neat History but a Little Underwhelming at Top of Hour

The Clocktower or Time Bell is really beautiful and is a landmark of the old city of Bern. In Swiss it is known as Zytglogge.

A very beautiful and amazing clock tower, gives a feeling of historical clocks, all old clocks in Swiss still work as good as new. This clock is in action every hour, try to be there before 12 to see it in action for long duration and nice play. It's beautiful and must see in the city.

First let me say this is a must see attraction for any visitor to Bern BUT I wouldn't say that the top of the hour visit is a must. The history is incredible but the motion at the hourly chimes is just a small short amount of motion. We even heard others waiting with us saying "Is that it?" We... More

Clock Tower (Zytglogge) is one of Bern's most important sights. This beautiful piece of astronomical clock was built way back in 1530. It served as the city's main clock and thus had an authoritative function in Bern. Today, you can see hoards of tourists taking pictures at this historical landmark. It is indeed a timeless piece of art. It's a... More

Clock Tower (Zytglogge) Today it is one of Bern's most important sights. The ornate astronomical clock with its moving figures was built in 1530. It served as the city's main clock and thus had an authoritative function in Bern. It was from there that travel times indicated on stone markers along the cantonal roads were measured. Standard units of length... More

Full of its details, the clock is very well made and shows not only hours and minutes, but also day, weekday, month and zodiac sign of the current period.

This is an imposing and very pretty, colourful clock tower and you'll want photos of it for your album. As it gets closer to the hour large numbers of people gather to see the figures. The display is interesting, but not spectacular.

Located in the picturesque centre of Bern the clock tower draws people from all around on the hour when the figures appear from one side and move around in front of the clock, disappearing at the other side. Get there arly if ou want to be close enough to see the action.

This clock tower is colourful and nice. The unique part is that this is a two side clock instead of the normal 4 sided clock. There are two clocks on the one side and only one the other. Why? Hope that somebody can tell me that.
