Very important building
May 2020
For those who vote and love this country. There is a great example of democracy inside these walls everyday. And from time to time you are welcome to join their debates.

The big square
Sep 2020
As its name suggests, the square is located in front of the Bundeshaus. The central bank is nearby, and good photos can be taken from the square itself. There is also a large water cascade suitable for children

Worth walking around
Dec 2019
I walked around here during my visit to Bern in December 2019. You can get a lot of nice photos here. During the evening there was an ice skating rink and it was fairly active. I would include Bundesplatz on any walk you take around Bern.

Executive privilege

This is the place that the foreign dignitaries are often photographed when visiting Berne, just outside the Bundeshaus. The Swiss Bank HQ is nearby.

Nice square
Oct 2019
This large, open square is right in front of parliament, and has water features with children running through the water sprouts despite the cooler temperatures.

Beautiful
Aug 2019
It is an amazing place, just like the rest of Bern and Switzerland. Walking there and in the surroundings is just so peaceful and calming.

Unadorned
Nov 2019 • Couples
Yesterday we visited Bern and clearly stopped in the square in front of our parliament.
There was a nice fresh market in front of it selling a lot of interesting veggies, pastries and cheeses, but the square itself is surprisingly unadorned, lacks charme and compared to other European capitals it was quite a disappointment.
I always wonder why our capital is not Zurich, since Bern is rather small and not particularly interesting...

Well Done, Bern
Jul 2019
Bern really knows how to present itself with class and this main plaza with is no exception. The children really enjoyed the dancing water fountains in mid-July and the ancient architecture is excellent.

Heart of the Swiss government in Altstadt Bern
May 2019
We visited Bundesplatz on a walking tour and there happened to be a farmer's market going on. I believe the farmer's market occurs on various days during the week and it was very congested as many people were taking advantage of getting fresh produce. Various federal buildings are located in this square and it is in Old Town as well as it has a wonderful view of the Aare River on the KirchenfeldBrücke not far from the square. Bundesplatz is located just a short distance from the train station; maybe a five minute walk. It is definitely worth a visit; we did not go inside any of the government buildings however I believe you can take some tours.

Capital of the Capital
Apr 2019 • Couples
Bern is the unofficial capital of Switzerland (some think it's Zurich), and Bundesplatz (Federal Square) is the capital of the capital. Most capital cities I have visited around the world have some type of demonstration going on, but not Bern. The Federal Square has an nice open market, and it's not far from the train station, plus it's in the heart of the Old City.

I think this would be a good starting point to see the Old City since no matter what direction you wander, you're bound to see the highlights of the city.
