... greatest views over Basel! Make sure you buy the full menu to somehow be satisfied at the end of the meal, as portions are fairly small. Good taste, tho.

We called at the Roche Tower on the off-chance but all of the tours were fully booked. However, the staff were very helpful and allowed us to visit the visitors centre where we could see the plans and models for the future buildings. We also used the virtual reality headsets to view the planned buildings. Very interesting. Book ahead if you want a tour.

Yes, the view from the tower is impressive and I did enjoy it but if you look from a distance at that tower you notice how it destroys the once special old town charm of Basel. I think it should never have happened. I don't have anything the tower in itself but I find the location is badly chosen.

Roche tower is perhaps the highest building in Basel, so it is a real landmark for the city. The whole area round it is owned by the same company and it's part of the business center of the city, as thousands of people work there. I think it's an interesting place to see following the city tour.

This impressive modern building on the north side of the Rhine lets visitors know that, in addition to its remarkable history, Basel is also a modern city with successful corporations and aspirations. As a tourist, I did not find it as distasteful as some writers here have. On the contrary, it's a simple and clean design, and is surrounded by a beautiful park and neighborhood. All modern cities should be so lucky. It enhances rather than detracts from the north riverbank.
