Roche tower is perhaps the highest building in Basel, so it is a real landmark for the city. The whole area round it is owned by the same company and it's part of the business center of the city, as thousands of people work there. I think it's an interesting place to see following the city tour.

My Wife surprised me on my birthday with visitors tickets to go up the amazing Roche tower, the tallest building in Switzerland, with a surface area of 74,200 square metres. The views are incredible! The free tour should consider adding a coffee from the machines and opening the outside terrace to tourists on the 38th floor, however.

... greatest views over Basel! Make sure you buy the full menu to somehow be satisfied at the end of the meal, as portions are fairly small. Good taste, tho.

Every time has it‘s buildings. Every time it‘s architects. And there will always be a gap- between the defenders of the past and modern architecture in a city.-
But this is not about whether it is destroying the skyline or being old fashioned.
It‘s simply an example of a complete failure of ugliness and disgrace by the world famoust architects. There is nothing interesting in building a concrete stairway to heaven or whatever this should be. The worst about it is that it is visible from any point of the city. A symbol of Roche - but a bad one. Herzog De Meuron did the Novartis Campus- and other architects contributed there! Great even it controversial.
But Roche tower is so ugly that I think the city council must have had a really bad day when they gave permission.
Modern architecture- of the rich and powerful- should be perfect, and fit in - even from a modetn vision.
This is an example and a warning! Basel is an open town- develppibg fast! But this building should not be there.

An absolute blight on an otherwise beautiful city. This monolith bombed its way into the background of so many of my photos. The architectural dialogue is at odds with everything surrounding it.

This building , visible from all over Basel is one of the worst examples of not caring for the people who live there and their opinion … it’s a blot … a shining example of a cheap architect , cheap planning and no respect for the citizens of the city of Basel … looks like something NASA would build a rocket in
Absolutely visually awful , in my opinion they would have the opportunity to employ a great architect to make and design a land mark memorable building … instead the designed this …. Hang your head in shame

Basel is one of my favourite cities in the world. I was so happy to return after a 5-year absence, but my enjoyment was marred when I saw what some corporation had done to the skyline from so many angles.
It is as if a giant ceramic knife had erupted from the ground. It is visually jarring and utterly out of place no matter from where you take it in, and I did a full circle around it. It is the height of arrogance - pun intended.
Message to those looking out from the top floor: I genuinely hope the view is spectacular, because it has come at the expense of everybody else’s.

When I was in Basel, this building was not open to the public. As far as I am aware, there are also no plans to do so.

Well, I have been citizen of Basel for 3 years now and Roche tower still hurts my eyes. For sure it is none of tourist attraction, maybe some more people find an employment there

Since we've been here in Basel for the occasion of one Congress of family doctors, we couldn't miss the chance to visit this ultra modern edifice, called Roche - Turm ( Bau 1) or Roche Tower. It is located on the right shore of the river Rhein, just going upward from the Old Town of Basel, including such sites as Rathaus Basel, Basel Minster Church, Mittlere Brucke, Wettsteinbrucke and numerous museums settled in the old part of the city, on the left side of Rhine River.
In the time of its completion, the building became the tallest construction in Switzerland. It is very well designed with many energy efficient features, like exhaust heat devices and ground water for heating and cooling. Also facade was done, in one part, in the shape of the stepped terraces.
We have had the great views at this unique design from several points in Basel, and from the building inside on the Basel cityscape as well.
One real landmark in Basel, indeed !

It is a commercial building which does offer tours. These need to be pre-booked.

Hey Sawmillbloke - Letters I, J & L are quite similar so are commonly omitted when labelling halls, rooms etc.
Was the missing floor 13? A quick Google will explain that one for you :)

Hallo liebes TripAdvisor-Team,
Nicole
