We visited this church when in Basel recently.
This church was originally a Catholic cathedral and today is a Reformed Protestant church.
The cathedral was built between 1019 and 1500 in Romanesque and Gothic styles.
The interior is pleasant but not spectacular.
The church was destroyed in 1356 by the Basel earthquake and was rebuilt.
Its constructed of red sandstone and coloured roof tiles. It has two slim towers and the cross-shaped intersection of the main roof.
This property has been heritage listed.

The Münsterplatz is a very great square in front of the Cathedral and on the same elevation as this church.
Being a student Town the square is very lively but at the same time still quiet.
There are a few terraces but what is most impressive is the small wood on tha ground.
Really lovely setting in the heart of the town and a baken of rest the midst the busy city.

Magnificent Munster! The top sightseeing spot. Great panoramic views over the Basel. I suggest to take a small boat from Munster to cross the Rhine. Kunst museum is a few steps away.

One of the best places to visit in Basel. The view on the river and the city is fabulous. Even tho the cathedral is not one of the most interesting that I saw, the view that you got on the river and the old town is fabulous. Really nice to see and relax.

We were in Basel at the beginning of December. We planned to visit a few cities around but we stayed for three nights in the city because it is so close to EuroAirport (our return flight was very early) and from its central station - Bahnhof Basel SBB you can go everywhere (eg. Colmar, Freiburg).
The most important information – when you stay in Basel you have unlimited access to the public transport in the city which includes bus from and to the airport. In the hotel we have been given a metro card but you can go by bus even from the airport. I heard you just need to have a confirmation of the hotel reservation but nobody checked that in our case. It is not free, when you stay at the hotel you pay a tax which is rather high…
Everything in Basel is pricey so if you want enjoy the city be prepared. For example: coffee in Starbucks costs about 6 CHF. The best option is to buy breakfasts at the hotel.
Our main purpose to visit this city was The Christmas market. There are two main markets in the city center: on Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz. We preferred market on Barfüsserplatz because it was very close to the tram station. There also was our favorite bar which offers a few kinds od Glühwein (from 4 CHF plus 3 for deposit). We think it was the cheapest stand but the quality of wine and food was very good. The most important dish on these markets is cheese - Raclette, which is served with small boiled potatoes and preserved cucumbers and onions. In our favorite spot it costs 8 CHF for plate but we ate it even for 10 CHF on Münsterplatz. You can also buy Raclette on a bread (from 6 CHF), sausages (from 5 CHF), potato pancakes, tarte flambée, salmon (only on Münsterplatz), pancakes and other sweets. They have tables around bars so you can drink and eat comfortably. On Friday the number of people was acceptable but on Saturday evening it was very crowded so think twice if you want to go there with children or dogs because that could be a problem.
For me these markets are like a food paradise. If you are prepared for it financially…

Spent a week in Basel for work and managed to squeeze in some sight seeing. This area serves as a town center almost. Very easy place to meet your group or plan your day and evening meeting points from here. Tons of local vendors come to see fresh produce and other goods in this area. The tram cars are very easily caught from this area.

While we were there, there were some actors busy shooting a "game of thrones"-themed video. The Muenster fits in quite nicely with that theme, and I thoroughly enjoyed admiring the building.

We arrived at the Christmas Market at night. I think this was the best time to visit with all the magical lights. It was just beautiful. There were many things for the kids, train ride, wood working shop, fairy ornament making, metal works.
There's lots to eat and of course they have the traditional Mulled wine, warmed up in a souvenir mug.
The market sells woolen hats, christmas tree ornaments, candied nuts, wax candles, jewellery, leather goods, christmas toys and more.
It was enchanting, a fairy wonderland.

A short & beautiful walk - - and in either direction you can get to the Rhine River for a more beautiful view. There was a winter festival going on in this square, so it was not so quiet - - but it was a lot of fun. We visited it several times during our 5 day visit to Basel.
