We walked from the Spalentor into the Old Town and passed the Jewish History Museum. We asked several people near its entrance if it was possible to visit the synagogue, which is several blocks away. One of the men happened to work in security for...More

I was very fortunate on the day of my visit as I inquired about possibly seeing the interior on the Synagogue. Well it was just my lucky day as Schammes, Mr. Goldstein, saw my interest in the Synagogue and interrupted his lunch to give me...More

We combined this with a visit to the Spalentor City Gate a couple blocks away. Synagogue is a nice looking building but you can only access via a prearranged tout. There is also a kosher restaurant on the back right hand side we didn't try.

You have to walk through silent streets of Basel to reach this synagogue. The synagogue isn't something very special or fascinating but its in walk distence to the botanic park, so it's worth a look.

If you want to see one of the most beautiful synagogues, this I the place to visit. If you are lucky, the Shammes of the community has time to show it to you during working hours, he is the nicest person! Or you can book...More

Hello mscadeau, I would guess to guarantee a tour you would need to call or email them directly. I was fortunate, as I spoke with a secretary on the day I visited and got a tour right on the spot. I would not expect... More
