Being the fourth iteration of a theatre on the site, it’s a tremendous edifice. Opening in the 1970s it hosts many cultural genres. Including opera, theatre and concerts.

Laudably, it has a large public space where visitors and families can take time out and relax.

Thus far I have seen and heard a brilliant production of Khovanshchina (it was actually better than the one I had seen only a few weeks earlier at the Vienna State Opera) and very good Zauberflöte (Magic Flute). Reasonable prices - by Swiss standards - and highly competent ensemble (both singers and orchestra). Highly recommended!

We bought tickets to the Opera; it was a nice experience. The theatre is a 5-minute walk from the main train station and is safe to walk. The only BIG issue i've seen is that the surtitles weren't visible... we could not see all surtitles. We were in the balcony and another screen should have been put up for the people further back. One could argue that if you get better seats this wouldn't happen but for 150-160CAD per ticket, I believe that for that price we could have had a better view of the surtitles. Aside from that, it was pretty nice.

Not much to look at at first but once you enter you can start to see the size of the place. Staff are friendly and on hand to guide you in the right direction and to the right seat. I love how you can see the orchestra playing. I went to see a world premier and the after show party was well organised were you could mingle with guests and staff alike.

We went to see Swan Lake here and the theatre is great. Reasonably priced drinks at the bar which makes a nice change!

Lucky enough to enjoy the Nachtessen sur scene at the end of January. Eating good food at tables on the stage whilst professional singers perform opera scenes all around you is a real privilege. Great evening, good food prepared by the Roter Baren restaurant and very good service.

I believe this is an annual event and space is limited as the tables are on the stage but if you get the chance go and enjoy a unique experience.

Like most theaters in Europe, Theater Basel is a first-rate rehearsal and performance hall. I had a complete tour of the building and observed rehearsals of the Basel Ballet and was most impressed with the spacious studios and the stage itself. This is a city jewel.

The opera house is simple, but beautiful. The public area around the opera house has some great water sculptures. The opera was amazing -- the set, rotating stages, performers -- incredibly talented group coming together. Lovely evening.....

We had a guided tour of behind the scenes of this theatre and it was particularly interesting and informative !
We saw the costumes department, workshops, rehearsals rooms, etc.

I'd like to come again and see one of the ballet they produce each year.
