Take a number 3 tram to St Alban Tal, walk down the incline towards the river and you will find the old paper mill. Learn about paper making through the ages, printing, water marks, marbling and book binding. There are 'hands on' stations where you can make paper, emboss practice calligraphy etc. Wonderful printing machines and type setters on display.... More

A definite highlight of our trip to Basel - our group ranged from 12-74 years old and we all loved it. Staff were informative and friendly, the displays interactive and you would get lost there for hours. I would put this on the essential list for a visit to Basel!

The Papermill is located near the Rhine in next to a part of the old city wall. A youth hostel is also nearby and one of the Rhineferries. In the paper mill you will have a guided tour which will tell you how paper was produced and why its located there. You also get to know why Basle has de... More

This museum is housing inside of a medieval paper mill. The museum offers a fascinating atmosphere being a combination of museum and production workshop. It is one of the few museums in Europe to maintain and preserve the historic techniques at an authentic venue.

The Basel Paper Mill is a beautifully restored museum with a lot of interesting facts about paper making. This museum is suited for all kinds of tourists, also children as they will enjoy the workshops where they can make their own paper and practise writing in ink. It is a compact place with rooms that exhibit different areas of paper... More

Check the opening time, I think it may be 11:00. Got there way too early, but did some side activities. Took a river powered boat crossing on the Rhine. Very interesting boat operator who chatted up a storm, gave us some postcards, and told us the history of the boat crossing. We also had coffee at the adjacent museum coffee... More

Great place for families because on each of the four floors you get to make things - paper, printing, marbling on paper. No need to buy souvenirs because these are " make it, take it."

Kids love this place. Its over 3 storeys in a real paper mill. You actually make paper from a cellulose mix on the ground floor, then try your hand writing with quills and bamboo pens on the 1st floor. And on the 2nd floor, a friendly gentleman helps you print an image of Basel on the paper with your name... More
