Most reviews say that Läderach is expensive. But come on, good work deserves a good salary and good resources are not cheap! I really prefer to buy some very good chocolate from time to time and to really appreciate it than to buy a cheap slab of terrible chocolate at the supermarket every day just to eat chocolate as a... The shops in town are really nice, but so are the ones in the train station. Wait and get your sweets there. Also the store name is now Läderach and the store on this map is a very small one. Instead go to one of the larger ones - like in the Marktplatz.

Not a chocolate fan but even I would die for their products, quite simply the best chocolate you will find in Switzerland. Went for a weekend visit but very disappointed to discover they were closed on a Sunday.

First things first, I used to live in Belgium and am therefore a bit of a chocolate lover :) To me, this shop is not any more expensive than any other food you will buy in Basel (I am still trying to get over the sticker shock) and it is SO WORTH a visit to buy some excellent Swiss chocolate.... Merkur chocolaterie is probably the best place to buy a chocolate for a gift. There is a wide assortment of chocolates, wider that one can imagine. So one can buy something original, something different than the usual 'Lindt' or 'Toblerone'. But...on the back side - it is a very expensive place. Do not step in if you do not have... More

The trams at marketplatz stops right in front of the shop. This shop has a big collection of chocolates. You can select individual pieces and prepare your box or you can selected from a range of prepacked chocolate boxes. Gift wrapping is also available. The staff also helps you in selection as per your choice. The minus point, even after... More

Merkur Chocolaterie was an impressive chocolate shop. We went in there to buy just a couple pieces of chocolate and went out with a large bag. This is the Chocolate shop to visit in Basel.
