This fountain is worth visiting even if you see nothing more in Basel! A testament to Tinguely's genius, the fountain stands where the orchestra of the old Basel theatre used to be. In 1977, Jean Tinguely created the nine mechanical sculptures/fountains that seem to play with the shallow water all day. Just sitting on the side and listening to the... More

Designed by Jean Tinguely, this attraction consists of several moving machines which work with water. Each of them doing their own thing, it is quite a pleasure to watch. A must see if in Basel.

I realy like Tinguely sculptures, and this is just amazing. I stoped for quite a long time to be able to admire all the parts.

Great fun to see. If you enjoyed this fountain of moving, weird, water spouting contraptions then the Jean Tinguelly museum is a must.

This was a great place to visit on a sunny afternoon to just sit and watch these mechanical water features at work. It isn't far from Barfusselplatz and will only take a few minutes to visit, but you'll enjoy the whimsy.

Fountain art with pipes and mechanical parts. Very good for people interested in mechanics and for everyone who love fountains and watching water jumping around.

We have been living in Basel for several years and have visited most museums in the city, but Tinguely is far and away the family favorite. The fountain near the Theater tram stop has a fountain by Tinguely if you need to understand what you are in for without committing (which you should...) We went yesterday for the music machine...
