Stumbled across these just out walking this beautiful city one day. It is a very clever use of water and mechanical art. Take a few minutes out of your day in Basel to stop by and watch these hydromechanical curiosities.

After living in Basel for some time, I surely am a great fan of Tinguely's art and not the least this fountain. You cannot find anything similar elsewhere and it is a "must" to see when in Basel.

Definitely worth a visit, not your average street fountain. You can get lost staring at in for a long time.

This interesting fountain is a tribute to Swiss clockworks and engineering. Take the time to stop by for a few minutes en route to the Old Town.

These moving water sculptures are fascinating to watch, whatever your age. Shady seating areas around the fountain mean you can relax comfortably and enjoy a bit of people watching too. A short walk from the main station.

1977 they placed instead of the stage of the old city theater a fountain by Jean Tinguely. The swiss artist has black asphalt poured into a shallow before placing these law power- operated, water spouting objects in it.These nine iron eminences are in constant motion and "talk" to each other just as did the mimers, actors and dancers who once... Interesting to watch all the structures moving. Very unusual. Each time you visited it appeared to be doing no different things.

The Tinguely fountain in Basel Stadt was built in the seventies, but today it is still as intriguing, and in winter time especially when ice forms on the exhibits. If you're lucky, you'll have a sunny day with spectacular light effects and reflections through the ice. A common meeting place these days for group tours, or for a lunch time snack,... More

This one's a unique and cute water. Suitable for children and geeks equally. We stumbled across this while walking around, but definitely a high point for us in Basel. Just watch and enjoy!

The fountain is very lively with different mechanical devices spraying water. Fun to stare at and just relax by.
