I did a self guided tour of Basel in September 2019. I went to the tourist office for information and I got a leaflet that provided walking routes around the old town of Basel. If you are short on time, the details of the walking tour are very useful for seeing the sights of the old town in a short period of time. The walking tour doesn't go to every sight of interest in Geneva, put it passes by many of the city's attractions, including the town hall and the botanical gardens.

I stopped in this local tourist office to get my maps and ask a few questions, which the staff offered and were very friendly.

There are many brochures of the city and if you do not see one in English just ask the staff as they are most helpful and will locate one if published in English or other languages. There is a free photo machine where you can send a postcard email, with Basel background, to friends/family.

I was looking for a couple of hidden places around the city so I headed to the Basel Tourist office. The staff speaks English and was very helpful with their assistance. Trainee, Naoum, and the other lady that assisted me gave me maps and found the locations I was looking for, one outside of the city center.

When in need of assistance, do not hesitate to head here to the tourist office for any and all inquiries. The staff has always been most helpful and accommodating on all of my visits. Highly recommended!

We went to the I Site in central Basel at 4pm on 23 June to find the lady locking the door. Instead of ignoring us and leaving, she asked us what we needed. We explained that we were trying to find the berth for our river cruise boat for our cruise starting the next day (cruise line hadn’t told us and their offices were shut till Tuesday). She reopened the office to get a map, looked up the port authority on her phone and got all the info we needed and told us the price of a taxi but also how to get there by bus. We were very impressed. It all took at least half an hour of her personal time. So hats of to the staff of I site Basel!

We called in at the tourist information office at the start of our sty in Basel. Recommendations were provided on activities appropriate to our needs and clear directions given to find bus stop for the city tour. No hard sells - just good advice.

Were were staying in the Gotthelf neighborhood west of downtown Basel and this was our first destination on the tram after we arrived. We were struck with how quiet the downtown is compared to large American and European cities. The electric trams, bicycles, scooters and very few cars created a remarkable calm considering all the people who were there. This tourist center is just around the corner from the Barfusserplatz tram stop and is chock full of literature, city maps, souvenirs and tour options. Staff are helpful and friendly but will only answer the question you ask, no added suggestions, so be forewarned. It's also a good place to buy a Wickelfisch swim bag if you're planning to float down the Rhine like so many of the locals do.

They weren't particularly helpful or efficient, but provided the minimum help. When asked where to pick up the bus they pointed in a general direction. There are no public restrooms in their building and again, they pointed in a general direction where they were. We never found the restrooms.

The bus tour was OK - not the best. It was rainy the day we were there so it did help us see some things, but wasn't something I would recommend if you are able to get around on your own.

We had Saskia for our guide and to our surprise is was only the two of us for the tour; so we had a private tour! Saskia (spelt wrong) was amazing!! She was so knowledgeable and showed us many interesting areas of the city that we would never have seen without her. The tour took 2 hours and was thrilling for the whole duration; hearing about the new and old town and all the culture surrounding Basel. After the tour we had a coffee with Saskia, where she offered to advise us on places to visit and places to eat. This was in her own time, and span well after the 2 hours that we paid for. The suggestions were fantastic and we had further wonderful experiences due to them :) brilliant experience and great value for money, highly recommended.

We needed to buy tickets for the sightseeing bus, and we couldn't figure out where the bus was going to be so that we could get on. We found the information center, and a wonderful young man answered all our questions and got us our tickets. His English was excellent.
