It looks so huge on the outside, but feels smaller once inside. The lower basilica with St. Francis crypt has a very special atmosphere.

After touring many churches - including St. Peters and the Sistine Chapel, it was this church that felt the most like a place of worship. You could feel the sense of reverence as soon as you entered the door.

great history of St. Francis. The location is beautiful, on top of the hill. Great to walk to and be a part of history.

A couple of miles, but always taxi cab outside. From memory the fare was about 20 euro's.
