Breathtaking

Inside and out. Amazing frescos inside of an active church. Remember to dress appropriately (no exposed shoulders) to be allowed to enter.

A lot of artifacts, gardens, chapels, used by St Francis. Many chapels, large gift shop with many Franciscan related gifts at reasonable prices. In valley, can be walked to but coming back is all up hill - recommend bus or taxi.

So much history. Don't just go to St Francesco. Worth the trek. The village is great day or night. We loved it

This very grand Basilica is worth a visit to see the Porziuncola. Avoid the vendors on the plaza but cross the street for a good gelato after your visit!

This church is really interesting: statues, painting and most importantly the "heart" of St. Francis: his first church and when he finally meet our Father.

Great cathedral, with a lot of history. St. Frances made his transition here. There are tame doves that hang out in the garden and hallways.

Beautiful church. Unfortunately, the constant chatter of tourists and phones ringing is disruptive. I wish there was more respect.

We were quite overcome when we saw the tiny chapel that Saint Francis worshipped in so beautifully preserved in the main aisle of this huge church. Very worthwhile seeing this as another part of the Saint Francis story.Be prepared to be deeply moved.
