This street is the main east-west corridor through the old town. It is increasingly populated with shops and, of course, crowds of tourists. Via San Francesco is at its best in the evening, after dinner, when the crowds are largely gone.

This main street of Assisi climbs from the Basilica di San Francisco through the heart of the town. The picturesque cobblestoned street is a pedestrian only lane lined with medieval and Renaissance houses, shops and restaurants. Visiting Assisi - then take time to stroll down Via San Francesco. Street is cobblestoned and lined with shops, cafés & restaurants. Great for purchasing those little gifts you want to take back home. Not to be missed.

Lovely street to walk down / up if you're walking around Assisi. It's got some lovely architecture and courtyards and views here and there. It's surprisingly open to local traffic and we had to duck- in to doorways to avoid cars! Many little boutique shops...More

Via San Francesco is the main drag in Assisi. It begins at Basilica di San Francesco (St. Francis’ Basilica) and goes up, up, and up some more to Santa Chiara (St. Clare’s Church) near the top of Assisi. It is cobblestone-paved, medieval, quaint, and is...More
