If your going to be in Assisi be sure to make the effort to attend morning Mass here at the Santa Chiara church. Mass times vary but mostly during the week days it's 7am. Ideally try to arrive around 6.45am so as to not miss the cloistered nuns from the Poor Clares and their Gregorian Chant singing. Truly wonderful.

Visit to see the crucufix, We also went to Vespers and although we found it tricky to follow, the singing of the unseen nuns was very beautiful. St Clare is on view in the crypt.

Santa Chiara is a beautiful Basilica. It has an amazing view of Assisi, as it is located in the "Entrance" of this unique town on the top of the mountains. You can see her clothing, accessories and even remaining's of her hair on the ground floor of Santa Chiara. You must visit it! Enjoy!!

Saint Claire is buried in the crypt below the Basilica. Good church, especially when you pay to light it up. Great experience, would go again.

I knew nothing of St. Claire. I'm not Catholic. But we found ourselves walking in front of this church on our way to St. Francis. So we stopped in. It was humble, serene and inspirational. I was moved to prayer. It was like a bath in holiness and peace. We only spent about 15 minutes here which was more than... More

We visited Assisi with a large tour group, just a day before the canonization so everyone was on their way to Rome..but many stopped in Assisi along the way. So the quite little town we heard about was busy, busy with people. The relics of St. Clare that you can see in the church are really moving--her simple dress, and... More

I recently went to visit the basilica of Santa Chiara in Assisi on a trip to the town. I arrived about 10 minutes after the doors had been closed as I later discovered. But, I noticed a side door on the right front of the church with people entering and exiting. I thought this might be the chapel of the... More

Definitely worth a stop, particularly as an antidote to that cheesy gift shop whose window you spent too much time looking into. Beyond that practical recommendation, though, is this: how you receive this place will depend somewhat on how deeply ingrained your Roman Catholicism is. We appreciated the beauty/tranquility of the church's interior: somehow its color and simplicity entirely befits... More

When we arrived at our monastery room in Assisi, we opened the shutters onto the little balcony to discover a view directly onto the Church of St Clare and the valley beyond. We took the twisting stone street down to the plaza in front of the church just as a group of young people began a dance class led by... More
