The church is dedicated to St. Clare a follower, probably the most famous follower, of St Francis. It is very peaceful and a great place to sit and be reflective. The square outside can be pleasant to sit in if it is not a hot summer day and there are several quick food/ snack restaurants (Italian-style) literally within sight of the... More

We came to Assiss mainly for St Francesco, but in many ways I preferred St Chiara. This is a very peacful, spiritual place with plenty of interesting features and marvellous artwork for non-believers just to appreciate.

A beautiful, peaceful church. We meditated here. The feeling is very strong that St. Clare holds your heart so you feel God's love.

The architecture of this church is beautiful. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to go inside the day I visited due to an event happening there.

Pilgrims will love it but tourists who just appreciate a good church or mosque would be better off down the hill with St Francis, especially the lower basilica which is far more impressive.

Besides that it is the other beautiful church in Assisi with outstanding views, we found the artifacts inside very interesting as it told a story about the saint and the times she lived in.

This church is the #2 basilica in town and is worth a visit but does not compare with #1, the Basilica of Saint Francis. Our guide took us here first (a wise move) so we could appreciate it before seeing the #1. This church is quite near the town square which is good. And there are numerous restaurants and shops... The view is imply stunning. The church of St. Clare is close to the St. Francis Basilica that both holy places is MUST see. St. Clare's story is very interesting. She gave up everything, her home, her wealth to live a very simple life devoted to prayers. St. Clare's final resting place is a must see.

Set in its plaza with fountain and magnificent views over the Umbrian countryside, the basilica is a jewel to the memory of St Clare, who established her own reputation alongside that of St. Frances

This church host the original San Damiano Cross. You can go and see it very closely. For some reason in English we decided to call Santa Chiara as Saint Claire...which translate to Santa Clara in Italy. Totally different name...?!?
