One of the most beautiful churches in the city
Sep 2021
I preferred this church to many others visited in the city . A much more enjoyable experience, even compared to the Cathedral of St. Francis. The people are much better managed, there are no crowds and you can enjoy the beauty of the church and the relics in it.

The “second lady” of Assisi
Aug 2021
Chiara was a girl who was a close friend of St. Francis. On the day she turned 17, she went with a friend at the Porziuncola and took off all her clothes and jewels, then she found asylum in a kloster of nuns. The church dedicated to her has not the artworks of the one dedicated to St. Francis, but it worths the visit too… you can also see her body!

Simple, Yet Beautiful
Apr 2019
This church was built in honour of St. Clare in 1257, two years after her canonisation. Don't expect famous paintings or nice ornaments in the church. However, what's noteworthy would be the tombs of St. Clare and her sister, St. Agnes of Assisi, together with the original San Damiano Cross (found in the chapel to the right). Unfortunately, the church closes during lunchtime and no phototaking is allowed (like most churches in Assisi). Other than that, it's definitely worth going, given the rich significance of this church, especially for those who have a strong connection to the Franciscan spirituality.

Very Holy
Oct 2019
A church in Assisi where the remains of Saint Clare is kept. Saint Clare was the founder of poor ladies and currently known as order of Saint Clare. The place was so holy that taking photos was not allowed. Very privileged as a Catholic to have visited this place with my elderly mother who traveled all the way from Asia.

Santa Chiara experience
Dec 2019
A lovely place to spend some quiet time and think about the work started by St Clare that continues today. Also possible to visit her resting place in the crypt

Grandiose, yet simple and mystic
Dec 2019
Behind an unremarkable exterior, the inside of this basilica is surprisingly beautiful - austere, with a few fading beautiful frescoes and the famous "talking" crucifix, an Orthodox-like piece of art worth the visit in itself, and the tomb of Saint Claire in the crypt.

Enjoyed the Visit
Oct 2019
This basilica is dedicated to Saint Clare. The church is very nice inside. In the crypt you can see clothing and other objects from Saint Clare. It is worth a visit when in Assisi.

A beautiful basilica that's not overly crowded
Sep 2019
It's hard to imagine that there weren't any crowds, and there was no cost. There's a beautiful fountain out front, and beautiful views. Worth a stop to see this basilica.

Interesting
Oct 2019
It’s an interesting place to visit, but rather busy. Most of he artwork is too dark to see well. The saints’ relics are worth seeing.

a must-see in Assisi
Sep 2019
This Basilica is not only very beautiful, it is also the burial place of St Claire and it is home to some exhibits that belonged to both St Claire and St Francis. The church is decorated with beautiful resco's and in one of the chapels you can find the crucifix that made St Francis decide to devote the rest of his life to saving the catholic church. A must see!
