There were 2 couples that took a tour of Perugia, Deruta and went to lunch at the home of Guiseppa with Anne. Anne has such a knowledge of the city of Perugia, history and historical facts. Looking online yourself and then going with someone who knows the area is so much more rewarding! There were so many areas she took us to that I could never have found myself!
Lunch with Guiseppa was such a treat! We have heard her name for years and felt blessed to meet her! She is such an amazing lady! She prepared a wonderful lunch for the 4 of us! Guiseppa gave us a tour of her home and property, the gardens, the barns, her boar hunting dogs and she showed us her bread oven in the old home next door where here husband was born!
We next went to Deruta where we went to a Majolica factory that has been in business for many many years! We were shown the entire process by the owner from raw clay to finished painted objects! The gentleman who turns the pottery has been sitting there at the potting wheel for 50 years hand making every single piece! We were running a bit late on our time so our stay in Deruta was a bit short !
I would recommend that anyone interested in Perugia or any site in Umbria contact Anne Robichaud for a tour of a lifetime!

We just completed a week touring the hill towns of Umbria with Anne Robichaud. Every day was wonderful, but some of the highlights were the Scavigliazione ( the denailing) in Assisi. We were especially interested in the Easter traditions here in Umbria and Anne did not disappoint. She made certain that we were at the Church of San Rufino at the proper time to witness them taking Christ from the cross and then took us to a monastery where the procession stopped on its way to the Basilica of St Francis. It was a very moving experience. The following day, we were part of the procession taking the Blessed Virgin to join her son. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with her friend, Giuseppa, and attended the blessing of the cheese breads at 2 rural churches.
We are interested in real experiences when we travel and these were real, not the typical “home visit” that you get from a tour company.
She took us to Deruta, Collepino, Gubbio, Assisi, Orvieto, Perugia, and the Umbrian countryside. Every place we visited, she knew the locals so we visited the finest crafts people and the best restaurants in every town.
If you want an experience guide who is fluent in both Italian and English and are looking for a unique experience, contact Anne at annesitaly.com. Her email is simply anne@annesitaly.com. Her website is full of wonderful information.

With Anne Robichaud as our guide, we had a four day stay in Assisi that made the center of our month in Italy sparkle forever in treasured memories. We contacted Anne from afar, and she guided our calendar decisions to include being ticketed spectators for three of the four days of the Assisi festival, Calendimagio! She told us "everyone should do this, at least the night fire parade spectacle, at least once before they die." Well, we are not ready to die, but we surely are grateful to carry such amazing memories with us until the day we do. Look on her website (anne@annesitaly.com) for many videos and talks about the wonder of this midieval festival that included live period music, theatrical pageants, contests, parades...only a video or Anne's talk can help me do justice to our spectator experience of attending this marvelous festival. Also, Anne's tour of the highlights of Assisi gave us deep understanding of the reverence Italians, especially those of Assisi, have for St. Francis. What a full hearted memory to carry with us til"the day we die!".

From 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, I would give Anne a 10 on the tour she gave us of Assisi. It was not a typical tour by any stretch of the imagination, as it included not only a thorough historical perspective of Assisi but also a personal touch that included meeting some of the top local artists in the city. What a treat is was. You could tell she was extremely well known and respected in Assisi. She also was extremely kind to recommend other parts of Umbria to see and tour. We will definitely work with Anne again when revisiting Umbria.

Anne is a living Google search of the Umbrian hill towns. Her vast knowledge of the area is truly astounding, but even more impressive is the way that her passion and enthusiasm makes the information come to life. She has embraced Italian culture during her many years as a resident, and her local connections seem to be endless. When you're with Anne, you can expect a full immersion into the beauty, history, and hidden wonders of Umbria, all while enjoying a truly authentic experience of the local culture. Mille grazie, Anne, for sharing both your wealth of knowledge and your genuine passion for this beautiful part of Italy!

We were with Anne on the feast day of St. Frances. Anne arrived snapping photos of locals in period costumes and school children lined up for the procession. She was a ball of excited energy and through her, Assisi came alive! She decoded symbols, explained Italian signage, business names and menus. Anne has an American understanding with an Italian soul. It was pure delight to be with her - she cared about not only our experience that day, but also the other days on our trip and generously shared links, information, photos. After living in Umbria 50 years, she still has tremendous awe and wonder about this remarkable place and each new discovery delighted her and through her, us. We could not have asked for more. Our day with her was truly a highlight of our trip.

We toured Assisi, Spello, Perugia, Deruta, and Montefalco with certified Umbrian tour guide Anne Robichaud. My wife and I found Anne while going through You Tube videos about the Umbrian region. What attracted us to Anne was her extensive knowledge about each particular site she visited. She just doesn't point out a particular site, she delves into the background meaning of the work of a sculptor or painter. There is so much to see in Assisi that me and my wife went back on one of our free days to explore areas we didn't get to see. Probably the best cup of cappuccino coffee we had was at a small coffee shop in Perugia which Anne has been going to since she was a student there back in the 1970's...the creama is unbelievable. In our trip planning we thought October would not be as crowded with tourists as in the summer season. Assisi, Spello (excellent wine tasting and lunch), and Perugia all had good size crowds. We were supposed to visit Gubbio on our last day of touring with Anne. She suggested we change our location to Montefalco....great choice. It was a lovely drive through the wine country surrounding Montefalco. Although you could not drive your car through the internal city streets there was ample public parking outside the city wall. How nice to be able to walk through the town and not have large crowds. Should we return, Montefalco is on the top of out list. One last thing. When we went to Deruta, we had an excellent home cooked rural banquet put together by Giuseppa . Check out Anne's You Tube channel for a videos about Giuseppa's banquet. If one watches Anne's videos you'll be introduced to Peppa. We had seen Peppa in so many of Anne's videos, we asked Anne if we could meet her. Peppa said yes and invited us over to her home for lunch. Wow, what a wonderful woman she is, a saint. Meeting Peppa and her dog Ringo was one of our trip highlights. The meal she provided was outstanding and what a beautiful location in the countryside she lives in. In summation, we have watched so many of Anne's You Tube videos and it was amazing to experience the locations in person. What was also interesting to us, is just last week on You Tube we found a movie made in 1985 called The Assisi Underground...true story, Many of the outdoor city scenes were shot in both Assisi and Perugia. It was nice to see locations you experienced first hand which have not changed over the years. Yes, we would recommend considering setting up a tour or tours in Umbria with Anne.

We stayed in Anne's farmhouse apartment and did a half day tour of Assisi, lunch, and then the Calendimaggio Festival that afternoon and evening. What a magical day! Anne is so knowledgeable about all things 'Assisi'. She took us to the best restaurant for a superb lunch in a gorgeous setting, and she made it very easy for us to attend the festival, purchasing the tickets for us before they all sold out (very quickly) and advising on parking and other practicalities. We owe Anne a debt of gratitude for making our Calendimaggio experience so special and would recommend you get in touch with Anne if you ever have the chance to attend.

There were four of us in Anne's group that toured Assisi and Spello. This was a trip that had been planned for June, 2020 that had to be rescheduled due to the pandemic. What a surprise we received when we finally met Annie. . Annie is a fireball of information regarding history, religion, culture, food, architecture, etc. She was an inspiration to us to keep learning, investigate, nurture your curiosity no matter your age.
Annie introduced us to an Assisi we would have never been able to find or capture on our own. We met many local artisans, shop and restaurant owners that left us with a longing to stay several more days. We especially enjoyed the luncheon in Spello at the Enoteca owned by a beautiful family.
Thank you Annie for the treasured memories we made in Assisi. Our photographs will not do justice to the warmth and welcoming experience we had due to your guidance and knowledge of the area.

My family greatly enjoyed our tour of Assisi with Anne- I think we will forever remember the Pace Bene thanks to her! Our tour was a half day tour of Assisi town, and I really appreciated Anne's flexibility in saying that she understood that with young children we might need to pivot and change tour plans during. I was extremely impressed with Anne's organization and careful planning, as well as her obvious love and knowledge of her subject matter. I was not surprised to find out that she used to be a teacher because she was excellently able to keep young children interested and engaged in the story of Saint Francis and the history of Assisi. We hope to come back to Umbria in the future and stay at one of her properties on her farm! Thank you Anne for the wonderful tour and the lovely conversation! We feel we have a new friend in Umbria :)

Hello! I’ve been trying to locate a schedule for 2018 celebration on Oct 4th. Could you provide. In the past you have recommended the visit despite the crowds. Is that still your belief and experience. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! If you are offering anything special as a guide would love to participate. I realize it’s late in the game.

You easily have time to do a tour of the Basilica and town in the day. I would do the Basilica in the morning, ( maybe 90 minutes ) walk around town a bit and have lunch, then do more of the town. It is not huge but to get the most out of it I would do either a tour either in the morning or afternoon, ( I recommend Anne as you can see )
The train station is too far to walk to the old part of Assisi , where the interesting parts are on a hill, so plan to take a taxi.
