Beautiful and impressive but it did make me wonderful how Saint Francis would say considering how entirely the opposite he lived.

A very steep, open Piazza with sweeping views of the Basilica. You can find a real life figure living rough like a Medieval Saint may have done, and there are public restrooms off to one side of the square, available for about 0.40 cents per user.

We visited the Francesco tomb with our hired walk tour guide and the churches, quite bit of stair walking was involved, but worth it.

It is no more than a large square that gives access to the basilica. It has a beautiful view of the fields of Assisi

La Basilica di San Francesco is an outstanding and mesmerizing building. The lower and upper churches were breathtaking. The murals that were painted by Giotto were so beautiful and colorful. The entire complex is literately a masterpiece!
San Francesco's tomb was an interesting experience on its own. Assisi is a town that is worth visiting on your Italian holiday, and the Basilica, well, you can't miss out! Definitely a most go!

A pilgrim arriving in this piazza centuries ago would see the same -buildings & the spectacular view from the top of the steps.

The open space, the Moorish influence, the enriched history. A true beauty. The restroom fee was a bit of a joke 2 Euro, but ok.

You enter the Piazza from Via Frate Elia through a portico, then through a security checkpoint. The Piazza is lined with 2 long colonnades. With in the colonnades are benches where you can sit and rest. There are also restroom facilities available at the Piazza.
Great place for photographs of the Basilica

This is the plaza leading up to the Basilica. It has bathrooms and I think there was a shop or tourist office here. My wife needed a place to rest after walking and along the colonnades was the perfect place for that.

This is the top of the complex. It's a church atop another church. There is a steep incline to reach this location. The views of the countryside from this height are awesome. The interior of the church is so typical of the Renaissance era. There was a follower dressed as St Francis. Please dress with respect to the religion as I saw many tourist with bare shoulders and short dresses.
