Follow the red brick road, oh my! This is a very well laid brick walkway that I've done both during the day and late at night. It is well laid out, easy to follow and there are places to rest along the way. The countryside is beautiful, especially if you walking from the station to the hilltop town of Assisi. You will have plenty of time to admire the city as you approach on foot along the restored, pilgrim route between the two major sites of Franciscan devotion.

This pathway, was the primary route used by the Franciscans and connects two of the greatest places of devotion to St. Francis, Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli and Basilica di San Francesco. It is done in brick, engraved with the names of those who contributed to this project. It is just over a 3KM walk and takes about 35 – 40 minutes.

A brick pathway overlaying the original path from Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli to Porta San Pietro, a distance of 3 kilometers. It follows for the most part the main road leading to Assisi from Santa Maria degli Angeli. About a 45 minute walk along side fields and woods that empties out close to Porta San Pietro. This pathway was discovered in 1990 while completing roadwork and the decision was made to brick over the original path. The bricks are inscribed with names of donors.

This walkway, paved with donor bricks, leads from Assisi to Santa Maria degli Angeli. A nice walk affords great views of Assisi from the valley floor.

Walk from down under to the Basilica San Francesco on top and become a Pilgrim. On this Pilgrims' path one walks on red bricks donated by people like you and me. They paved the path for us. As we do for ...?

The walk from Assisi to Santa Maria degli Angeli is beautiful and very well marked. It is best to make the walk down and use the bus to go up.

The road into Assisi is well laid out and the car parks around the city are impressive. Other walled cities could do well to copy.
