As you work your way to the top floor of the Museo dell’Opera, there is a waiting area / line for the Panorama dal Facciatone. It is worth the wait for a beautiful view of the city. Our wait was only 15 minutes. First, you descend two flights of a half dozen steps, then you climb 61 steps (by my count) on a circular stairway to an intermediate observation level. After about 5 minutes, you are prompted by a museum guard to move up to the top. You climb another 71 steps on a circular stairway. Wow. You are at the top of a wall that was a planned expansion of the church in the 14th century. The church expansion was stopped due to the plague. Enjoy the views in all directions. Again, you have only about 5 minutes before you are asked to descend.

When in the cathedral make sure you include in your ticket the climb to the view. It is a safe climb and we went in April so only had to wait 5 mins. Would love to stay up there longer to soak it all in. Take your camera and enjoy. It is most wonderful. Only a few are allowed up at a time so you can enjoy it without heaps of people up there.

I had wanted to see the staggering view from the top, which is now quite famous, but hadn't understood the access issues. I don't walk well and stairs can be a problem so it was expected to be a challenge anyway, but I realised I just wouldn't get up and down it in the limited time on our coach tour.

Although I missed out this time, this viewpoint is highly recommended but, for people like me, you need to be in the town for, say a whole morning so as to get up it early.

Wondered why we were queuing for best part of an hour in scorching heat but were so glad that we did as the view didn’t disappoint! We only had an afternoon. In Siena and have no idea what we missed out on but would definitely recommend a visit here!

The staff recommended us to visit the "panorama" before the Duomo. Thanks for her advice. We needed to climb inside the narrow tunnel stairs to the top but it's worth it. We can see the entire Siena on the top. The view of the cathedral and Del Campo are exceptional.

The amazing views of Siena are worth the 131-step climb to top! Don't forget to visit the museum as well.

To get here, you pass by the very enjoyable "opera museum" and then, after a not excessive number of steps, you go to see a very interesting view that is difficult to find in other places in the city. Very convenient that this place is included in several cumulative tickets (I chose "OPA Si Pass" , which I recommend).

A great view of Siena. Walked up many steps to get to the waiting area, then had to wait for our group to be called to walk up the spiral steps to the viewing area. But what a view when we got there! Well worth the wait and the steps to get there.
