Small public park on the top of a car park with good views over the countryside to the south of the city.
Jun 2019
This small, slightly hilly and undulating public park is located at the back of the 13th century Sant' Agostino Church and Convent and on top of the Il Campo car park. You enter the Il Campo car park via the Porta Tufi southern entrance to the city. It is less than a 10 minute walk from here to the Duomo and Il Campo, albeit an uphill walk.

The park was originally used as a market garden by the friars of the convent. Today there are certainly a lot of olive, fruit and other trees within the park.

These days the park is used during summer for concerts and film shows. There is a section for dogs and a large very ordinary looking sculpture called "the Drop" but the locals refer to it as "The Pear".

During our first visit to the park this time whilst staying in Siena it was very overgrown and the grass was in bad need of a mow. A week later it looked far better as the grass had been cut and the area had been tidied. It appeared that they were setting up for a concert of some sort.

The views over the countryside south of the city from this elevated vantage point are very good but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here if I wasn't parking in the Il Campo parking area or entering the city via the Porta Tufi.

Not a huge park but fantastic views
Oct 2017 • Family
I had hoped this would have been a bit more substantial as a city park than it actually was. That said, the views from here are fabulous and reason alone to come here.

Quiet

We were very lucky to be able to walk and have our picnic here.
After a lovely walk around looking at all the sights and churches, it was just lovely to sit and take a breath in this beautiful free garden.

Lovely free garden
Aug 2016 • Friends
Lovely garden, mainly used by locals. A pleasant easy walk to get to it; entrance is opposite the botanical gardens through an opening in the wall. Wonderful views open up of the Tuscan hills and city of Siena as you walk through the garden. It is quiet and peaceful with plenty of shade if needed and picnic benches. There is a public toilet nearby for convenience so an ideal family picnic area.

A great view over Siena and its surroundings.

Orti dei Tolomei is a beautiful community garden on the edge of Siena. It is a nice place to clear your head, read a book or go for a picknick with your friends. The place adds some contrast to the narrow, people-packed streets in the city centre. The view is stunning (but really) and the garden peaceful. If you're looking for some peace and quiet; this is the place for you.
