Motivated by Hisham Matir's book, A month in Siena, to see Lorenzetti's three frescoe panels on the Allegory of the Good and Bad Government. After up and down the museo, learned in the gift shop that the frescos are being restored. Would have appreciate some heads up on the multiple reference websites. Disappointed.

The fundamental stop for those staying in Siena for the first time is certainly the famous Civic Museum overlooking Piazza del Campo. The rooms are really fascinating and the staff that guards them open to any questions and curiosity. I bought the 18€ ticket to see the Museum, the Torre del Mangia and the Pinacoteca. It took me about a couple of hours to visit. Through an app you have access (for free) to the audio guide, I recommend to equip yourself with a pair of earphones!

I was in Tuscany and drove to Sienna about a year ago. Recently I received a traffic citation. I was following the signs to the parking garage and somehow drove into an unauthorized area. Clearly this was a tourist set up. Since I was "late" in paying the fines doubled. I had to pay $110. This ticket was not sent by traceable mail. It was in a nondescript plain envelope. I'm fortunate to have noticed the small Italian writing.

You really can't get here without driving. Just be advised that you will probably get a ticket and bang your head against the wall trying to no avail to get the ticket reduced to first notice. As lovely as this place is, the scam ticket experience has spoiled this for me. I return anywhere that has scammed me.

The museum ticket costs 6 euros (deserved) to which I would have liked to add the climb to the Mangia tower (total cost 15 euros), but the problem did not arise since the tickets for the tower were sold out.

The ticket office is inside the Palazzo Pubblico and right at the entrance (where there is the internal store) there is a qr code to download an application that, for free, allows you to make a visit with an audio guide to the museum.

I've toured many museums, but I must admit that this audio guide is done just fine. It gives you a lot of information and allows you to delve into the details of interest. So if you are interested in a detail deepen, otherwise you move forward and the visit flows in a pleasant way.

Visit the most important representative rooms of the Palazzo Pubblico one of the most significant examples of medieval Gothic building.

You visit several rooms starting from the Risorgimento hall, to continue and arrive at the Consistory hall where weddings are currently celebrated, then continue with the vestibule, the globe room (the name has remained but in fact you do not look for it since it is no longer there) that preserves in the wall opposite the one where there was the globe the Majesty of Simone Martini.

Had visited here in December 2022 only to learn that the Lorenzetti frescoes were undergoing restoration. Somehow missed that fact that these frescoes were still undergoing restoration November 2024 and only discovered when asked on the fresco floor. I was told that tours at around $21 Euro were available if reserved in advance in Italian except Mondays. Wish I had time to do so since this to me was the major reason for the visit aside from the Martini Maestra. A lot of stairs to climb, minimal English documentation, leaving one an overall impression that the curatorial staff could make the experience come alive with some investment. Floor staff and gift shop staff helpful.

We actually wanted to buy a combi ticket together with Torre del Mangia (same building) but the tower was closed due to weather conditions. So only bought tickets for museum. You can use a free audio guide via an app on your smartphone. Museum was sure
Nice to see but expected more of it. Certainly not something that sticks with me or is really a must do in Siena

Such a lovely space to explore Siena's detailed history as a city! Most people will pass over the museum when purchasing their tickets to go up the tower, however it's an interesting exploration into exactly why the building is there in the first place! Written guides are throughout to add context to the various frescoes and room designs.

There is a veranda around the back of the museum that overlooks some beautiful Tuscan countryside - it's not the usual view of the city, but a special one nonetheless!

On Piazza Del Campo, next to the Cappella di Piazza, you can see this magnificent palace, recognizable by its white stones on the ground floor. Due to lack of time, we were not able to visit the Civico museum which is located on the first floor. Nice view of this palace from the square.

Stunning Siena one of my favourite cities in Tuscany. Not overpriced or over crowded by tourists unlike other cities in the region. Still visit the others but don’t overlook this city. Make sure you also go up the 2 towers and soak up the beauty and if you’re lucky you’ll hear the opera singers practising at street level

Very few rooms, but wonderful beyond words: the singularity of a city which, between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, prides itself above all on the glories of its good government is all (despite Lorenzetti's fresco being restored!) in what can be appreciate wandering among the high walls all covered with frescoes of the highest quality (less so, perhaps, in the first room, dedicated to the Risorgimento). The chapel, landscape inserts, battle scenes; the decorative continuity is such that the eye does not perceive the change from one environment to another. The tall windows overlooking the Campo and the rows of Sienese buildings are wonderful. It is accessed from a magnificent colonnaded courtyard on the ground floor.
