We went in here (at the back of the cathedral) because we had an all in one ticket. After the Duomo, I was not impressed so only stayed a few minutes.

Buy the Opa Si pass - all inclusive access for just 12 euros, and although limited to one trip per site, it can be used over 3 days. Much better value than buying tickets if you want to see more than 1 site. It gives you access to the main Duomo cathedral and the Libreria, the Battistero, the Crypt, the... More

The Baptistry itself is quite nice, but the works of Ghiberti, Donatello and many more give the room its special allure. They are among the greatest sculptors of the Renaissance and many of their greatest small works are here right next to one another. You can lose yourself comparing one to another and see how each fed off the other.

While I have to admit that I prefer the Baptistry in Florence (although the Siena Cathedral is my favorite), this is a beautiful building with lovely art, well worth some time. We enjoyed sitting on the benches and gazing at the ceiling art.

Another beautiful chapel for baptismal functions. The font is surrounded by bronzes done by well known sculptures , like Donnatelli and others. The ceiling is covered with incredible frescoes.

The Baptistry is actually behind and under the Duomo....down a long flight of stairs. Inside are wonderful paintings and peek at the pagan temple below.....a nice surprise.

Frescoes are superb. Bronze panels on the font are beautiful. Catholics, especially, should spend time appreciating the articles of faith as expressed in the ceiling frescoes.

Access is included in the 12 euro pass. The artwork in this small room under the main room of the Siena Cathedral is worth visiting. There are also some bronzeworks located in this room displaying the exceptional craftmanship of the period. Again, no flash photography is allowed.

Take the time to see the details on the beautiful mosaics, such skilled work by medieval craftsmen. The crypt is fascinating, that it was just discovered less than 20 years ago, with frescoes still showing bright colours.
