I am very glad we came here. This simple church was so special in that it reminded me of a poem by e.e. Cummings, "I am a little church no great cathedral". It felt warm to me.

The unfinished Basilica due to the plague. It is big but not much to see other than the mummified head of St. Catherine behind the altar. Just that in itself is worth going to this church

If you enjoyed the frescoes in the Palazzo Pubblico (and if you didn't, what are you doing in Siena?), you'll be delighted by the Lorinzetti in here.

This was one of the stops our religious pilgrimage group made while in Siena. The building itself is not very ornate but is large and has some nice features. But this stop was the highlight for me of the entire 12 day, 3 country pilgrimage. A wonderful Italian priest allowed our group to view the Eucharistic Miracle of hosts that... More

We were impressed with the art and the history. Catherine of Siena has long been a treasured devotional writer and it was good to see her represented here.

Basilica is quite big church. Originally built in 13th century and enlarged until 15th century . Coming to small square to front of it, doesn't reveal its size. Church burnt 1655, but they still rebuilt it with wooden roof. Nowadays you can have led candles, but not in 17th century. Church have plenty of beautiful stained glass windows, but it... More

Didn't match up to my expectation. We enjoyed the very hilly stroll to find this place. Found the interior to be cold and dank. A pleasant walk back and a glass of tuscan wine cheered me up.

Wandered in here when arrived in Siena. Lovely church and quiet, cool courtyard to get out of sun or have some peace. Free to get in.
