This square sees a lot of tourist traffic from bus groups, many of whom use this route as there are several streets, including via del Paradiso and via della Sapienza, which branch off the square and lead into the centre of Siena. There are two small green parks, one with some trees in it that is between where the Viale Curtatone and the via del Paradiso meet at the square and another, with grass and cyprus pines, running down beside the Basilica. There is a map of Siena in this park.
If you follow the park beside the Basilica a short distance down to the gates you will get great photo opportunities of the Duomo which sits on the hill across the valley.
There is also a very good gelato place called Il Masgalano Gelateria a short distance along via della Spienza'

In this square, along the church or just go down a small alley “Via Camporegio” and you have a nice view of Siena, particularly the basilica and the Torre del Mangia.
