We had a wonderful time on our Brunello di Montalcino Wine Tour of 3 separate wineries. For those who might be coming from Florence, it is a bit of a long trip (particularly on the way home after a day of drinking wine) but is totally worth it. The wine was wonderful and the scenery in the Tuscan country side is GORGEOUS. We also had the chance to stop in Pienza for a short walk around the town and did some shopping which was an unexpected pleasure. Not only that but the company was fantastic, my wife and I ended up being paired on the tour with a couple from Switzerland and we hit it off! Overall, this was a great way to tour some great Tuscan wineries.

We spent six amazing hours on a Thursday in June with Alexandra and Niccola having fun making and eating two different kinds of pasta, pepper beef stew, and tiramisu all in a lovely, refurbished vintage "chicken coop" overlooking the city of Montalcino and its vineyards to the North. Our hosts were high energy, fun, engaging and genuine. We came to know each other over the afternoon we spent together. The setting for this event is spectacular. This is not a "cooking class" inside a commercial kitchen. This class is in a renovated building on the property of an old winery with a huge picture window viewing south towards Montalcino and the famous cru vineyard of Montisoli. Imagine kneading your pasta while enjoying that scenery..... The hosts are totally committed to getting to know you and making your experience as enjoyable as possible. You learn how to make tagliatelle and ravioli from scratch. You learn how to make a pepper beef stew in a completely different way yielding meat that you can cut with a fork perfectly seasoned. Finally, you make your own personalized tiramisu. You enjoy the fruits of your labor outside the kitchen on an adjacent covered patio. It overlooks the same vineyards and view of Montalcino you enjoyed earlier. It is beautiful and comfortable and a spectacular end to a delightful experience. A couple of items to consider for your enjoyment. First, they do provide Prosecco during cooking, and you taste a glass of three different wines with your meal (IGT, Rosso, and Brunello). You are not getting large amounts of wine with your experience. This may not be an issue. Our group, however, is a drinking group so we were always wanting more wine. Suggest you purchase bottles at the winery to augment your experience if you so desire. I wish I would have just headed up the hill to get some additional bottles versus praying something miraculously would appear. I'm not sure if you could BYO your own vino from outside the host winery. Something to inquire about. Secondly, we had 9 folks in our party. The room where we prepared the meal is extremely nice and functional, but I would not call it spacious. I would not want much more than 10 folks preparing the meal inside. Finally, I don't want to forget Fabio, the driver who picked us up and dropped us off at our Villa in Buonconvento. He was fabulous. His "schtick" and funny banter (including full operatic singing) made the trip to and from our cooking/eating experience unforgettable.

Niccolo led an absolutely memorable all-day tour for our wine loving family. He brought us to three different wineries, each with their own distinct wines and personalities. He was very communicative leading up to the tour and we felt very well taken care of. He was also very accommodating, picking us up at our hotel, and we never once felt rushed on the tour. We spent a long time at our second winery tasting many wines and talking at length with the vintner, and Niccolo was very relaxed with our timing. We felt the winery choices were very authentically Tuscan, with phenomenal wine! Many places did not export to the US commercially, so we were able to ship wine back to ourselves (at very good prices). During the drives to and from wineries, Niccolo educated us about the history of Brunello, Tuscany, and Italian wine making. He answered all our questions with ease. A stop at Pienza for gelato, espresso, and pecorino was also a highlight. He also gave us some wonderful recommendations for restaurants and things to do in Tuscany outside of wine-tasting, which we very much enjoyed for the rest of our trip!!

We had an amazing fun and learning experience with this class. The entire experience is well planned out, from the tour of the winery to the rolling of the pasta dough. Our instructor Alexandra is funny and engaging and communicates very well. Highly recommended if you are looking for a memorable experience in the Siena area.
