I think all tour groups use the Piazza as a meeting place. While we were gathering we learned a bit of the history - but the interesting thing is that there is not a bank in this building - and during the recession, several men jumped to their deaths from these 3rd story windows. I remember seeing it on the news.
There are some lovely photo options from the piazza, though because the surrounding area is filled with shoppers and stores of all kinds. It is charming to people watch and see the villagers stop and chat with one another. I think that was my favorite thing.

The Salimbeni family were like the Medici of Siena. They were the richest dynasty and this little piazza celebrates their might, in the centre of their financial heartland. The oldest bank in the world and their palazzo forms the perimeter of the piazza, crowned by the marble statue at the centre.

We kind of used this piazza as an orientation point. Imposing statue surrounded by beautiful architecture, especially the bank building behind the statue, the oldest bank, which unfortunately was not opened to go in. This piazza was most beautiful at night, when the lights made it impressive.

This was the meeting point of our tour in Siena. It is a small pleasant square with historical buildings surrounding three sides. The most noted building was the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the oldest bank in the world. There were a few crafters located around the statue of Sallustio Bandini. He was a noted economist and politician during the 16th century.

Not Salimbeni stands on a pedestal. Sallustio Bandini, the Italian archdeacon, economist and politician of the XVIII century, stands on the square. He supports free trade and the removal of the local feudal tariffs and fees. The oldest Bank of world Monte dei Paschi di Siena is located behind Bandini. He was doing business for a long time on the principles of Bandini. It is now seeking help from the Italian government. In the opposite ideological direction. A large collection of paintings located in the Bank building. There`re not the titans of the Renaissance, but Lorenzetti and Tino de Camaio are available. We can not see paintings, the building is closed. You can look at the X-mas tree and Bandini and move on. Such is free trade.

This square contains Palazzo Salimbeni, the headquarters of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, as well as a statue of Sallustio Bandini. It's a stone's throw from Piazza del Campo and worth a look at if you're passing, albeit as a "secondary sight".

in the night the bank here is shut and this is a nice place to spend some time. theres a bench here and you can pick up cigarettes/wine/food from the store nearby. people are walking on the street but not many people stay around the square. its a busy place yet you can find your quiet corner.

they say the buildings are the banks of siena.. quite old

This Piazza has the via Banchi di Sopra on one side and 3 different Palazzos, now all used as offices of, and owned by, the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Bank.

As you stand on the via Banchi di Sopra facing the small Piazza, on the left is the renaissance styled Palazzo Tantucci that was built in the mid 15th century. On the right is the Palazzo Spanocchi, also a renaissance style building, built in the mid-16th century. Directly in front is the gothic styled Palazzo Salimbeni that was built in the 14th century. All of these 3 buildings were linked together in the mid 1970's.

The Piazza was refurbished in the 19th century and the statue of Sallustio Bandini, an economist and politician, was erected in 1880, almost 100 years after his death.

Commonly mistaken or linked with Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (one of the oldest banks in the world) as it's right next door, this little plaza houses the statue of Sallustio Bandini, one of the first Italian economists.

Directly behind the statue is the Salimbeni Palace, and on the left of the statue (your right if you're looking at the statue) is the Spannocchi Palace, while on the other side (to your left) is the Tantucci Palace. The palaces may not look much, compared to other more famous palaces around the world, but back in 1400-1500, these palaces would have been quite extravagant given the external designs and size. All 3 palaces are owned by the family owner's of one of Europe's first bank, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, which is still operational today.

Apart from this though, there's not much to see here, so take a photo and move on to the more famous and grand attractions of beautiful Siena.
