Very beautiful Roman Catholic Basilica, famous for its frescoes, greater part of which date from the 14th century. The fresco represent the Old Testament cycle, New Testament cycle and Last Judgment as well as others. The Old Testament cycle is depicted on the wall of the left isle, moving from left to right. Photos without flash were allowed, as well as a photo stick. Face masks had to be worn, and prior to a purchase of a ticket, Covid certificates are being checked.

Three of us visited in October 2019. The marble floors inside the duomo are only uncovered for a few weeks out of the year and we were fortunate enough to visit during that time.

The architecture, history, paintings, art that makes up this masterpiece of a building is incredible. Something that should be experienced at least once in a lifetime. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...and our tour guide Claudia Cesa walked and talked us through the beauty of it all, along with the city of Sienna.

Don't miss this experience. It's beyond words and the marble artwork and stories that it tells is beyond words. Pictures do not do it justice, however I am attaching some to this review.

Go ... see ... for yourself. It's amazing.

Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta is the Duomo (or Cathedral) of San Gimignano, a wonderful medieval town located in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. We visited this town in August-2019 and we had to wait to enter, because it was full of people, but the visit was very interesting. The Cathedral has a lot of very beautiful frescos in the walls. One of the some tursitic places, you should see in this town. Very interesting.

Definitely one of the highlights of San Gimignano.
Painted walls are just extraordinary and you can spend quite a while paying attention to all the details - special mention for the Hell one...

On our first day of a vacation in Tuscany we stopped in for a wine tour in San Gimignano and then walked through the city afterwards. The Duomo was an absolute highlight. TWO walls of 14th century frescoes is about as good as it gets for lovers of early Italian Renaissance art. There were many other frescoes and sculptures including works by Gozzoli and a stunning chapel by Giuliano da Maiano. I was left breathless and the Romanesque exterior is fabulous too.

A visit to the Collegiata is well worth the visit to touristy but beautiful San Gimignano. Make sure you purchase a ticket and visit both the Duomo and the Museum. An excellent commentary and unbelievable frescoes. A real must visit when in Tuscany. And most of the tourists don’t bother as they are too busy at the souvenir shops and taking selfies with the unbelievable townscape.

Really interesting church, has large paintings on the wall of old and new testament stories, had a great time testing my bible knowledge figuring out the depictions. Definitely worth the ticket price!
