Not only sea but also culture!!! This park is wonderful, absolutely worth a visit, it is easy to reach, there is convenient parking, it is a journey through nature and the history of the ancient city of Populonia to discover many things, special thanks to Silvia, our guide (free) who was competent and exceptional in telling many anecdotes making the visit a fun journey into the past to discover how our ancestors lived!
Also don't miss all the other activities related to the archaeological park!

A wonderful day immersed in Etruscan history at the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia.
We arrive in the morning and the car park is located right next to the Gulf of Baratti. Parking for park visitors is free, just have your ticket stamped at the exit.
We walk along a beautiful path to reach the information center and validate the tickets. Coffee break in the park's bar-restaurant and we set off for the necropolis of the quarries, following a wonderful trekking route in the middle of the woods, also accessible for my 3 children who had a lot of fun. Then Necropolis of San Cerbone. Then we leave for the Acropolis in Populonia. The guides who accompany us on these routes are expert, friendly and engaging, we learned so many interesting things. The views with exceptional glimpses of the Gulf of Baratti are breathtaking. I recommend visiting this park especially in spring, we found it to be a really hot day.
For the rest it was a wonderful day for the whole family, immersed in the past and history of a civilization.

Absolutely negative opinion on the organization. Let me start by saying that we have visited many archaeological sites, not only in Italy, but we have never had to wait half an hour to buy a ticket, it is unacceptable! Only one person at the ticket office, you see people waiting and the queue never gets shorter! It would be better to indicate the types of tickets outside, otherwise everyone wastes a lot of time... The site is interesting but nothing special, no tomb can be visited and the ticket costs 27 euros!! (poor and faded indications, why charge so much?) A round of applause to the guide who accompanied us to the acropolis. And if when you visit the other sites in Piombino they tell you that there is a 50% discount, be careful... it ONLY applies to the most expensive ticket! Bookshop... frankly shabby

The visit to the Archaeological Park was limited this time to the Acropolis and thanks to a Guide (Roberta Lucia) who was able to transmit her knowledge and her enthusiasm to those who listened to it, it turned out to be of great interest and not without surprises. Highlights of the tour remain the Roman aristocratic house with its private baths and what seem to have been the public baths with the sea mosaic (in copy, the original is in Piombino) and the mosaic, visible for now only in photos, dedicated to the cult of Venus. But all the excavations, still ongoing, are noteworthy and remind us of the prestige of Roman Populonia.

The site is magnificent. This is definitely a visit to the region that you should make whether you are a history buff or not.
The small downside is the absence of an audio guide and documentation in French even though we met many compatriots on site. Conversely, there are audio guides in German although we saw none.

We had read that the routes would not be practicable without sneakers but we discovered that they are also very feasible in slippers (despite getting your feet dirty).
We bought the ticket for the acropolis of Populonia and the Necropolis of San Cerbone.
As for the Necropolis, we were not thrilled: despite the Guide was very prepared and the subject was interesting, we did not see anything particular in our opinion, beyond the first large tomb. The route is also feasible independently but the large tomb is opened exclusively by the Guide (which is the only one that can be worth visiting because it is largely visible).
The Acropolis of Populonia, however, we liked it much better. Again, the Guide was very competent and nice, drawing parallels with the present day or other civilizations.
Definitely simple path even with a dog, I do not believe with small children in tow especially if with a stroller.
Interesting, many parts present, some reconstructed and others partial but gives a good idea of how the city worked.
The nature trail is worth doing (alone) but be careful because the last access is at 5.30 pm, which we were not told at the time of Reservation.
Customer service available but not punctual in giving all the information.

The park is very interesting thanks also to the prepared guides who clearly illustrate the archaeological remains. I must say, however, that the price is, in my opinion, very high. Two adults and a child 50 euros (the guided tour is free of charge or rather it is included in the price). It is certainly not the way to bring people closer to culture!

We have come a long way to reach this site. Paid parking just next to the entrance. In the end, however, it was worth it. While we were waiting for the guided tour, we also had some time to see the small village with the castle. Even if the visit is free, there is no point in doing it alone. The guide is already included in the ticket. Wait for the timetable and follow it. Ours was a site archaeologist. Very good and with fresh news of excavations. At the end you also have time to wander around freely and see the splendid views of the sea. There are several shaded spots and it's not very big. You visit with pleasure and with explanations, everything takes on a different flavour. Try to go to the first openings. Then the parking lot fills up with tourists. Many also go to the beaches below.

The Archaeological Park of Baratti offers a rich and immersive cultural experience, with honest prices considering that, in Italy, culture has a rather high cost. The guides are exceptional: knowledgeable, friendly and able to explain in detail but engaging, making the experience much more interesting. Although there is a lot to walk, it is absolutely worth it. This place has aroused in me a new interest in a theme that I previously approached superficially. Another positive aspect is that the park is not overly touristy, allowing you to fully enjoy the visit without much confusion.

Beautiful and very extensive park. We opted for the full ticket, including 3 guided tours throughout the day: acropolis and two necropolises.
Guides prepared and very pleasant (thanks Irene, Lisa and Silvia), which make the visit to the park even more enjoyable.
Recommended comfortable clothing and sneakers.
Go there: it really deserves!!

grazie in anticipo
Written July 7, 2022

Grazie
Written August 29, 2018
