The Tower of Pisa (180 feet in height) was begun in 1173 and, due to its faulty foundation on unstable soil, leans precariously more than 14 feet out of line, preventing visitors from climbing its 300-plus steps to the top.

Getting to the tower was a bit of an ordeal as you have to pass many market stalls selling touristy tat. It is truly amazing when you get to the area containing the tower, cathedral and baptistry. The degree of leaning of the tower is really quite funny to look at and it is surrounded by people posing for silly... More

Absolutely fantastic bit of architecture. We booked a tour for 9am and so glad we did as it was relatively quite when we first arrived. They are very security conscious about the tower and we all had to leave our bags in the cloakroom, and be scanned before we entered so it took a little while before we actually got... More

Go late in the day to avoid crushing crowds. This is in the oldest section of Pisa and is surrounded by much beautiful architecture and many museums and attractions which offer free admission or admission by gratuity only.

It dose not disappoint even though it is so familiar to most people there is no substitute for actually standing next to it. ( please try to resist the corny holding the tower up photo, such a cliche!)

After 3 weeks in Italy, I realized there are many leaning towers. I guess the ground was not stable in a lot of places. This one got the publicity. It is attractive, especially against a deep blue sky. But the crowds around it trying to get their photos "propping" it up or whatever, somewhat detract from the chance to get... More

I was pleasantly surprised to find that there's much more to see than just the leaning tower. While in itself the tower is beautiful , it's the beautiful buildings that accompany it in the Pisa Cathedral Square that make it a stand out attraction. The Baptistry and Cathedral in the square are stunning. I would warn you however that there... More

a great place to visit but the space size is to small but still a good place to visit the tower. Perfect time to visit this is around 8am while everybody is still sleeping so that you will get stress with the crowd during peak hours.! 👍🏻🇮🇹🇪🇺

Worth the visit if only to take pictures of it. The access to the tower and surrounding buildings are all paid access. Must see for sure.

Spent an afternoon at Pisa. The walk from the bus drop off to the main attraction is a walk through market (you pay your money and take your chances) on reaching the outer wall nothing can prepare you for your first glimpse of the tower. How it is still standing beggars belief. The list is unbelievable. The tower shows no... More

Most people are going to Pisa to see the wonder that is the leaning tower. You would be disappointed to not go up the tower once there. I prebooked my ticket online a week or so before going and as access is limited I would highly recommend doing this. I was chatting to someone who tried to get a ticket... More
